5 Claims, 5 Drawing Figures mammal aim-atr a PANTY GARMENT WITH HIGH RISES AT THE LATERAL PORTIONS OF THE PANTY BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION a pair of stockings, a shirt, or a jacket are attached to the panty.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION With the foregoing and other considerations in view, the invention contemplates the provision of more courses in the front and rear of a knitted panty than the number of courses in the lateral portions thereof. For example, an additional row of knitted yarn may be 'introduced in the front and rear portions of the panty between the knitting of the courses corresponding to the successive course of the lateral portions'of the panty so that only half the number of rows will be present in the lateral portions; or an additional row may be introduced every second or, third row or more, or two or three or more additional rows may be introduced between every row that extends through the lateral portions. I
The knitting of panty hose may involve the circular knitting of each of two hosiery elements, the inside upper part of which is slit longitudinally and the edges of the slits sewn together front and back to provide panty portions with vertical seams inthe front and back parts thereof. In the formation of this type of garment, extra yarn may be introduced from a second yarnfeed in each hosiery element between the courses knitted from one yarn feed all around the machine, but only in the knitting of that panty portion parts of which will appear, after slitting, on the front and rear of the panty.
Similarly other garments, such as shirts, may be formed from tubular knitting elements suitably knitted, slit, and joined with operable closures being employed to unite certain parts of the edges thus slit.
Suitable machine and operating variations may be made to vary the knitting to provide instead of a single course, a plurality of contiguous courses of knitting of one and/or the other type, as above indicated.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION FIG. 1 is a front view of a panty hose embodying the invention;
FIG. 2 is an enlarged diagrammatic detail view of the portion thereof shown in the rectangle of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a side view of the garment;
FIG. 4 is a rear view of the garment;
FIG. 5 is a view similar to FIG. 1 of a panty shirt.
DETAILED DISCLOSURE FIGS. 1-4 show one type of panty hose embodying the invention and comprising two circularly knitted hosiery elements 12 and 13. The upper part of the element 12 is slit downwardly to provide an edge 14 as shown in FIG. 1 and an edge 15 as shown in FIG. 3, and
the element 13 is slit to provide edges 16 and 17. The
edges 14 and 16 are then united at a seam 18 at the garment there is secured an elastic band 21, and the lower parts of the elements 12 and 13 provide respectively, leg portions 22 and 23 which are desirably formed of stretch yarn, and heel portions 24 and 24, and toe portions 26 and 27.
The panty part of the element 12 comprises front and rear portions A of loosely knitted yarn and a lateral portion B of tightly knitted yarn; and the panty part of element 13 comprises front and rear portions A of loosely knitted yarn and a lateral portion B of tightly knitted yarn.
The manner of knitting the portions A and B; are exemplified in FIG. 2, it being understood that the portions A and B are similarly formed.
As will be seen in FIG. 2, a continuous course 1 runs throughout the fabric as does a continuous course 3 and in the portion A an additional course 2 of yarn is introduced therebetween; and a course 4 between courses 3 and 5, a course 6 between continuous courses 5 and 7 and a course 8 between continuous courses 7 and 9 are similarly introduced. Course 10 is shown following course 9 in portion A. It will thus be seen that the extra courses 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 permits the knitting of the portion A with less tension Wale-wise than is present in the knitting at B where there are less walewise loops and each loop has a greater tendency to draw the fabric Wale-wise. The resulting action enables the bottom of portion B to rise up the side of the leg portion to give the effect shown in FIGS. 2 and 4, and brought out particularly clearly in FIG. 3.
In FIG. 5 there is shown a panty shirt comprising panty portions A, B, A and B similar to those shown in FIGS. I4, and depending from shirt portions C and D. The shirt portion C is knitted similarly to the knitting at A, being circularly knit and then slit, and the shirt portion D is formed of knitting similarly to portions A being knit circularly and slit. As shown, one continuous slit is provided with one side of both the panty and shirt portions and one continuous slit is provided at the inner side of both the panty and shirt portions; and there is provided a rear seam 30, a front seam 31, a front zipper32, and a crotch portion 33.
As in the case of the stocking of panty-hose embodying the invention, the yarn and the knitting in the shirt portions of the tubular elements, from the upper part of which the shirt is formed, may be entirely different from that employed in the panty; suitable yarnchangers and needle-controls being provided for this purpose.
We claim:
1. A panty garment having a waist portion and comprising a pair of circularly knit elements disposed sideby-side and slit at least along part of their length and joined at pairs of the edges thus formed to provide a panty having front portions extending downwardly from the waist portion and extending laterally from one pair of joined edges and rear'portions extending downwardly from the waist portion and extending laterally from the other pair of joined edges, and lateral portions extending downwardly from the waist portion and each extending between a front portion on one side and a rear portion at that side, the panty part having a multiplicity of courses of knitting in the front and rear thereof and in the lateral portions thereof, and having an additional course of knitting between each pair of the aforesaid multiplicities of courses and alternating therewith in the front and rear of the panty but not in lateral portions thereof, so that when the garment is worn the lateral portions of the panty will be drawn together vertically to provide an upwardly contoured effect at the lateral portions of the lower edge of the panty.
2. A panty garment as in claim 1 wherein each of said circularly knitted elements is similarly slit along an upper part of their length, and certain of the edges thus provided joined to provide at least one garment part in addition to said panty.
