Abstract

A smoke drawing device comprises a base of floor lamp type configuration having a drawing fan therein. A tabular member of floor lamp type configuration is supported substantially vertically by the base over the fan. The tubular member is bent at substantially right angles to itself at its free end away from the base. A lampshade type unit is mounted on the tubular member at the free end thereof and opens into the tubular member in a manner whereby smoke in the area of the lampshade type unit is drawn by the fan through the tubular member and out through the base.

Objects of the invention are to provide a smoke drawing device of simple structure, which functions with efficiency, effectiveness and reliability to draw smoke out of a room and thereby purify the air in the room although one or more smokers are polluting such air.

In order that the invention may be readily carried into effect, it will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein:

FIG. 2 is a side view of the embodiment of FIG. 1;

FIG. 3 is a circuit diagram of the smoke drawing device of the invention;

FIG. 4 is a block diagram illustrating an arrangement for disposing of the smoke drawn by the smoke drawing device of the invention; and

FIG. 5 is a block diagram illustrating another arrangement for disposing of the smoke drawn by the smoke drawing device of the invention.

In the FIGS., the same components are identified by the same reference numerals.

The smoke drawing device of the invention comprises a base 1 (FIG. 2) of floor lamp type configuration having a drawing fan 2 (FIG. 2) therein.

A tubular member 3 of floor lamp type configuration (FIGS. 1 and 2) is supported substantially vertically by the base 1 over the fan 2 (FIG. 2). The tubular member 3 is bent at substantially right angles to itself at its free end 4 (FIG. 2) away from the base 1.

An outlet tube 5 (FIG. 4) may extend out of the base 1 to a point outside the house in which the device of the invention is located, as shown in FIG. 4, or may extend to an air or smoke filter, as shown in FIG. 5.

A lampshade type unit 6 (FIGS. 1 and 2) is mounted on the tubular member 3 at the free end 4 thereof and opens into the tubular member. Thus, smoke in the area of the lampshade type unit 6 is drawn by the fan 2 through the tubular member 3 and out through the base 1, as indicated in FIGS. 1 and 2.

A lamp 7 is mounted at the free end 4 of the tubular member 3 in the lampshade type unit 6, as shown in FIG. 2.

A source of electrical energy for the device preferably comprises a source of household or commercial power 8 (FIG. 3). A switch 9 controls the fan 2 (FIGS. 1, 2 and 3). A switch 11 controls the lamp7 (FIGS. 1, 2 and 3). An electrical circuit electrically connects the source of energy 8, the switches 9 and 11, the fan 2 and the lamp 7 in circuit (FIG. 3). I

An air or smoke filter 12 (FIG. 2) is housed in the base 1 and filters the smoke drawn into the base by the fan 2 before discharging it from the base. The filtered air, indicated by an arrow 13 in FIG. 2, is returned to the area in which the smoke drawing device of the invention stands.

While the invention has been described by means of a specific example and in a specific embodiment, I do not wish to be limited thereto, for obvious modifications will occur to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

I claim:

1. A smoke drawing device, comprising a base housing of floor lamp type configuration having a drawing fan therein;

a tubular member of floor lamp type configuration supported substantially vertically by the base housing over the fan and communicating therewith, said tubular member being bent at substantially right angles to itself at its free end away from the base housing;

an outlet extending out of the base housing remote from the tubular member to an area spaced therefrom;

a lampshade type unit mounted on the tubular mem ber at the free end thereof and opening into the tubular member in a manner whereby smoke in the area of the lampshade type unit is drawn by the fan through the tubular member and out through the outlet;

a smoke filter in the outlet for filtering smoke drawn therethrough; and

a lamp mounted to the free end of the tubular member in the lampshade type unit for illuminating an area around the lampshade type unit.

2. A smoke drawing device as claimed in claim 1, further comprising electrical energizing means, a switch for controlling the fan, a switch for controlling the lamp and electrical circuit means electrically connecting the energizing means, the switches, the fan and the lamp in circuit.

Claims (2)

1. A smoke drawing device, comprising a base housing of floor lamp type configuration having a drawing fan therein; a tubular member of floor lamp type configuration supported substantially vertically by the base housing over the fan and communicating therewith, said tubular member being bent at substantially right angles to itself at its free end away from the base housing; an outlet extending out of the base housing remote from the tubular member to an area spaced therefrom; a lampshade type unit mounted on the tubular member at the free end thereof and opening into the tubular member in a manner whereby smoke in the area of the lampshade type unit is drawn by the fan through the tubular member and out through the outlet; a smoke filter in the outlet for filtering smoke drawn therethrough; and a lamp mounted to the free end of the tubular member in the lampshade type unit for illuminating an area around the lampshade type unit.

2. A smoke drawing device as claimed in claim 1, further comprising electrical energizing means, a switch for controlling the fan, a switch for controlling the lamp and electrical circuit means electrically connecting the energizing means, the switches, the fan and the lamp in circuit.
