To all whom It may concern Be it known that l, O'r'ro ERNST, of the city and State of New York, have invented, made, and applied to use a certain new nd useful Improvement in M etallic Shirt Collars; and I do hereby di eare thefollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description ot' the said invention, referente being had to the annexed drawings, making part of thisspeciiication, wherein- Figure 1- is a perspective view of my said collar, and Fig. 2 represents the sha-pe in which the metal is out out before being rolled up into a cylindrical form.

Steel and other metallic collars have heretot'ore been made with an'opening to Vpass the button on the shirt.

The nature of my said invention consistsin go the shape et' said collar. c isa hole in the collar near one end, sutiiciently large 'to pass the button on the shirt, and d is a notch near the other end of the collar, so that when4 the parts are connected by the stud b there will be suiiicient opening remaining uncivered of the hole e to contain the shank or threads attaching the button.` After the button has l been introduced through e, the collar is to be clasped together at its ends by the stud b, or other suitable connection, after the edge of the colla-r at the notch d has been entered behind i such button, thereby said colla-r cannot bevor ,i become unbuttoned until the collar itself is u ielasped. Y

In order to attach the collar to the button or buttons on the lshirt, at the back or at anyY other point where such buttons 4may be pro` vided, l make use of along buttonhole, i, at one or -both ends otwhich is a hole, 1r, sufijciently large to allow the button to-vpass, and then the collar is drawn along sutiieiently to bring the shank or* threads into the narrow slot i, from which it cannot escape until the collar is unclasped and slid partially around to bring the button to the end of the buttonslot. The opening or openings k at the end ot' the slot i may be circular or elongated in either direction, and this slot lmay be horition.
