WATCH CASE. No. 440,544. Patented Nov. 11, 1890 WITNESSES j/VVEJVIO? Q .dlimwey UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
OSCAR R. DECKER, OF ROCHESTER, INDIANA.
WATCH-GAS E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 440,544, dated November 11, 1890. Application filed June 11, 1889. Serial No. 313,890. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OSCAR R. DECKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Fulton and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in \Vatch-Cases; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in case-centers of watch-cases; and it consists in certain details of construction, which I will hereinafter fully describe, and point outin the claim.
Reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of one side of a case-center, showing my improvement. Fig. 2 is a diametrical sectional view of a case-center, showing the dust-arrestin g groove arranged in the bezel-seat around the periph ery of the annular wall.
My invention is developed upon that part of a case-center of a watch-case known as the bezel-scat, and it consists of a clearly-defined groove, which shall be coextensive, preferably, with the inner edge of said seat, though the locality of the groove may be varied along any part of said seat, as maybe preferred. The object in thus placing the groove in the bezel-seat,'as will be readily apparent, is to provide a receptacle for any dust particles that may pass between the bezel-seat and the bezel-rim or watch-lid.
The device is especially applicable to those case-centers having screw-threaded connections with the bezel-rim, though it is equally eflicient when applied to case-centers having the usual snap-edge attaching said parts.
Referring to the drawings, A is the casecenter, formed as usual, having the bezel-seat B upon each side thereof, while at the inner edge of said seat is erected the annular wall D, and it is at the bottom of this wall that I prefer to form the dust-arresting grooveC, which constitutes the essential feature of my invention. I
In operation it will be seen that if any particles of dust pass between the bezel-rim or lid and the bezel-seat they will be gathered in the groove C, and as more or less oil is always upon the surface of the groove the particles will be readily retained therein and prevented from passing in the watch-case.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The case-center herein described and shown having on opposite sides the dust-arresting groove C, arranged around the annular wall in the inner edge of the bezel-seat, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
OSCAR R. DECKER.
