Description

Y Patented Dec. Il, |90Q. C. A. BUEBEKAM.
BURIAL BASKET. (Applivation filed Oct. 11, 1900.) (No Model.)
I@ @mi IINTTED STATES PATnNT @Trina CHARLES A. RUEBEKAM, OF OWOSSO, MICHIGAN.
BU RlAL-CASKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.'663,641, dated :December` 11, 1900- Application filed October 11, 1900. Serial No. 82,715. iNo model.)
To all whom it may concer-71.:
Be itknown that LCHARLES A RUEBEKAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Owosso, in the county of Shiawassee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burial-Gaskets; and I do hereby deciare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specilication, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The object of the present invention is to provide a burial-casket with a swingable section hinged at or near the center of the body of the casket, so that when swung up or elevated it will give a couch-like appearance to the casket and when down the section will form a part of the body of the casket.
The invention consists of a burial-casket constructed substantially as shown in the drawings and hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure l of the drawings is aperspective view ot' a burial-casket embodying my invention, said casket being shown without any upholstering or ornamentation, the hinged lid and hinged section being elevated; Fig. 2, a cross section showing the hinged lid and hinged section in a closed position.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the body of the burial-casket, and B the usual hinged lid thereof, which may be of any preferred form and shape, and any desirable ornamentation and npholstering may be used, as found most preferable.
The essential feature of the invention re-` sides in the swingable section C, so that when swung up in position, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, a conch-like appearance will be given to the casket when open. In order to secure this effect, it is necessary that the sec- I tion C be hinged to the ends of the body A at or near the center thereof, as shown at a.. The supporting edge of the swingable section C or the edge that rests upon the edge of the body A when in the position shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings is perfectly plain, as indicated at b, to correspond with the plain edge of the body, while its outer or upper edge-is ornamented or scrolled, as shown at c, to correspond with the ornamental or scrolled edge d of the body A.
It will be noticed that the swingable section C is separate and independent of the usual hinged cover B, and therefore forms no part thereotl when the section is closed down upon the body or when in a raised position.
When the swingable section C is raised to the position shown in Fig. l of the drawings, it will be on a plane above the plane of the body of the casket, and thereby give a couchlike appearance to the casket-,and when down, as indicated in Fig. 2 ofthe drawings, the section will form a portion of the casket-body.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A burial-casket, a hinged cover therefor, and a swingable section hinged to the ends of the casket-body at or near the center thereof, said section heilig independent of the cover and swingable to a raised position after the cover has been opened, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES A. RUEBEKAM.
