COMBINATION.
Be it known that I, JonN SonMEnsAHL, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the borough of Manhattan and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Combination Cradle and Chair, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to chairs,
' and more particularly to a combination high chair and a cradle or swing, the object being the use of children; and the invention con: sists in the novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement, all ofwhich will be fully described hereinafter, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a combination-chair constructed in accordance with my invention, the device being "arranged as a chair and ,hhViIlg the tray in place. Fi 2 is a side elevation of the device arrange as a cradle or swing. Figs. 3 and 4 show details of construction,
In the practical embodiment of my invention I employ the le s A, connected by bracerounds A, and at t eir upper ends the le s are connected by means of the side pieces havin suitable bearings C, through which pass t e pivot-bolts D, from which suspend the hangers E,'connected at their lower ends to the seat F, said seat having a back G'piv otally connected to the rear endthereof, the
side members of the back projecting below the seat, as shown at G, and it will be noted that'the side edges of the seat are cut away at the rear ends, as shown at F, in order to permit the side members of the back to be swung back and forth. Y
The forward end of the seat is provided with dependin legs H, carrying a footboard I, and to gleevers K and L are pivotally connected to the legs H and seat F and also to the rods M, extending from the lower ends of the side members of the back to the piv otal connection between the tog lelevers,
\ said construction being designe and arranged so that when the back of the chair is thrown back, as indicated in Fi 2, the footrest will be thrown u so that t e le s of the child'will be propery supported'w 'e the body is in a recumbent position, and for the Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed August 30, 1904;. s erialNo. 222,741;
CRADLE AND CHAIR- Patented July 17, 1906.
.end forwardly, said lower end working through a slotted catch-bar -P and against which the ratchet-bar is adapted to en age 6ov for the 'urpose of lockin the seat and ack at any esired point ofa justment. to provide a simple and eflicient device for T indicates a tray pivotally connected a one end to one of the side pieces'B by means of a headed pin T, which enga es a slotted castin T arranged upon one si e of the side piece The opposite end of the tray 1s rofided with a catch 1, which is adapte to engage a pin T, carried by the other side piece B, and when the tray is looked across the forward ends of the side pieces all motion of the chair is arrested, inasmuch as the arms W of the seat F will engage the underside of the tray T, as most clearly shown in F g. 4.
When it is desired to use the chair as a7 5 swing or cradle, the tray is unfastened an d swun over upon its ivot, and the chair 1s then co to swing, an by adjusting the back and foot rest portions the device can be transformed into aswing or swinging cradle, if desired. V i
Having thus fully described my inventlon, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
-1. The combination with a support of the hangers pivoted thereto, the chairseat connected to the hangers, the back, plvoted to the seat, the foot-rest pivoted to the seat, the spring-actuated ratchet-bar attached to the back, and the slotted bar attached to the 0 seat, and through which the ratchet bar passes, the toggle-levers connecting the seat and foot-rest, and the rods connectlng the tog le-lever's to the lower end of the back, as set orth. t
