To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY B. WARD, citizen of the United States, residing at Cuba, in the county of Sumter and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bundle or Package Ties, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to an imroved device for bundling together a numer of letters, ppstals, or similar members,

and has for its 0 ject to provide a novel form of package tie which can be employed repeatedly, thereby obviating the necessity for providing a new cord or tie member each time the package is loosened.

A further object of the invention is to design a package tie of this character which is simple and inexpensive in its construction and which can be quickly manipulated either to secure a number of members into a package or to loosen the same as may be desired.

For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the application of the improved package tie. Fig- 2 is a transverse sectional view through the button. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the button. Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing the manner of holding the package tie upon a bill file when not in use.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

A package tie embodying the present invention consists broadly of a disk or button formed with a series of spaced concentric flanges and having a cord or tie member attached thereto, the said cord being designed to extend around the bundle and to be wrapped within the grooves between the spaced flan e of the disk.

Specificafly describing the button it will be observed that the same comprises adisk 1 which is preferably circular in shape as shown and which has the upper edges thereof beveled outwardly. Extending u wardly from the central portion of the dis 1 is a standard 2 carrying a series of spaced concentric flanges 3 and 4, the flange 3 being I somewhat smaller than the disk 1 and the flange 4 being smaller than the. flange 3. Each of the annular flanges 3 and 4 gradually decreases in thickness toward the outer edge thereof, thereby forming approximately V- shaped grooves which have a wedge action upon the cord wrapped within the same and tend to prevent any slipping of the cord. The disk 1 or base of the button is formed near its edge portion with an opening 5 through which the cord or flexible member 6 extends, one end of the cord being knotted as indicated at 7 and engaging the disk to prevent the cord from pulling through the opening.

Describing the application of the device,

the letters or other members to be bundled together are preferably assembled and the cord 6 passed around the same. The end ortion of the cord is then wrapped around the button within the grooves between the flanges, and owing to the wedge action of the flanges and to the fact that a series of grooves are provided the cord is effectively prevented from slipping and all stray ends which might cause annoyance by becoming entangled in foreign articles can be wrapped upon the button. The base or disk 1 is also formed with asecond opening 8 designed to receive the wire of an ordinary file or similar member and to hold the package tie in such a pbsition as to prevent the cord from becoming entangled when it is not in use.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

In a package tie, the combination of a disk having an opening therein, a cord engaging the opening, a standard projecting from the disk, and a plurality of annular flanges carried by the standard and gradually diminishing in size toward the outer end thereof, the said flanges also decreasing in thickness toward the outer edges thereof to form V shaped grooves which have a wedge action upon the cord when wrapped within the same.
