Description

liuitrd gisten @sind wir,
Letters Patent No. 91,111,'dated June 8, 1869.
IMPRovED cARPnT-PASTENER.
The Schedule referredito in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL N. FRENCH, of Fitchburg, in the county of \Vorcester, and State of Massachnsctts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Carpet-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference beingv had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of referencemaiiced thereon.
This invention relates to' an improved method of fastening carpets, whereby the use of tacks is obviated, injury to the carpet avoided, and a simple and eihcient fastening obtained, as will hereinafter more fully ap` pear.
In the drawingsy Figure l is a side elevation of my invention.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the same. 4
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A represents a lstrip of metal bent in the form of a right angle, the basei of which is perforated in such manner as to form triangular projections or teeth a on the upper side. A spur, a', is also formedon the end of the strip, and is bent downward.
To the vertical part ol the strip A is pivoted the right-angled button B, the base of which swings over the perforated base ofthe strip A, and is provided on its under side with transverse corrugations, which lare so arranged as to Work between the rows ofthe teeth a.
The button B is pivoted through a vertical slot in the strip A, and is rendered adjustable for different thicknesses of carpet.
Both forms are secured by the screw which pivots the swinging portion, that in the former case entering the mop-board, the spur entering the door, while in the latter, both the screwvand spur enter the door.
Ilhe operation will lie-readily understood.
When the fasteners are all in place around the room, the buttons are swung aside, the edges of thev carpet placed on the teeth, and the buttonzswnng down thereon, pressing the carpet rmly between the corrngations on the button and the teeth on the strip. The operation is continued in this manner, the carpet being stretched meanwhile'between the fasteners.
The carpet may be readily removed by reversing the operation.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
- The carpet-fastener described, consisting of the base A, having the projections a, a, and spur a', and swinging button B, the whole being combined and operated in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
This specification signed and witnessed, this day of SAMUEL N. rennen.
