Abstract
The read-out monitor is an electronic safety device mounted on (the rear of) a vehicle to overcome the blind spots at the rear of that vehicle whilst reversing. The device operates by the transmission of a signal from an ultrasonic transducer to a monitor within the vehicle and visible to the driver, enabling the driver to determine the (safe) distance between the vehicle and any other object behind.

DESCRIPTION
A safety device for the electronic graduated measuring and display of distance between the front and rear of a vehicle and any other mobile or stationary object within a preset direction and range operating on a sound signal emitted, froma transmitting unit attached to a vehicle, along a narrow beam which is reflected from such other mobile or stationary object to the same transmitting unit which converts the signal to a unit of measurement then transmitted to and displayed as a distance on a digital readout monitor mounted inside the vehicle and visible to the driver.
The transmitting units, on both the front and rear of the vehicle, are powered through the ignition by the vehicle battery interconnected by wires to the display monitor, the rear unit being activated by engaging reverse gear, or, both or either unit, by a manual switch when required.
The transmitters and monitor may be fitted as standard to new vehicles or as optional extras or as an accessory.
Claims
1. The Electronic Bar-Graph Digital Distance Readout Monitor ("the Monitor") is an electronic device comprising three major components interconnected by wires.
2. One such component is an ultra-sonic transmitter/ receiver (Length sensor) attached to the outer extremity of a vehicle (usually a bumper bar).
3. The length sensor transmits signals to a control circuit mounted elsewhere in the vehicle which translates the signal.
4. The translated signal further transmits.a signal to a digital or calibrated LED display monitor mounted in the vehicle and visible to the driver.
