Abstract

Disclosed is an integrated surgical and cauterizing apparatus, comprising a surgical instrument (100) including a drive member (154), a cannula (112), and a tool (156), and the cannula (112) attached at a proximal end to the drive member (154) and defining at a distal end thereof an opening, and the tool (156) including a shaft (150) and a tip, and the shaft (150) contained within the cannula (112) and connecting the tip in the opening of the cannula (112) to the drive member (154) to produce a surgical motion of the tip; and a cauterizing instrument (104) comprising at least one electrode (142), and a conductor (138), and at least one electrode (142) affixed to the cannula (112) adjacent to the distal end of the cannula (112) and the conductor (138) providing an electrical path from the at least one electrode (142) for the application of electrical power to the at least one electrode (142) to produce a cauterizing effect.
