Description

METHOD OF IMPOSING GABLING GAME FEE ADDING UP TO ADSL
SERVICE CHARGE
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to a method of imposing network
game fee, and more particularly the present invention relates to a
method of imposing a game fee, which is differentially calculated
depending on victory or defeat of the gambling game, by adding up to
ADSL service charge.
BACKGROUND ART
Recently, there have been stably built infrastructures related to
Internet and the related art has moved ahead grew by leaps and bounds.
Internet thus entered into the center of human society together with
supply of a great variety of services on-line.
Among those, game service is widely used by young people and
the number of game service users has explosively increased. Hence, in
spite of an old biased view, the game is considered as one kind of
cultural contents which is even encouraged through the national policy.
Games provided through PC, video or game machines in a game
room are already antiquated. Today, more spotlighted are network
games which are provided and used through a communications network. The network game allows so-called multi-play. In the network game, a
gamer can enjoy the game against human opponents, not against a
computer which responds to the gamer just in accordance with a
predetermined algorithm. This network game requires more
intelligent reaction of the gamer in the game and also gives more
variables to the gamer. In these points of view, the network game is
more and more popularized among gamers.
There are various kinds of genres in the network game: strategic
simulation game, matching game, role-playing game and adventure
game. Most of them also have a feature of the matching game at least
partially, so allowing a gamer to fight for victory against other gamer(s)
on line.
Related to a method of processing a gambling game depending on
a game result, there is proposed Korean patent publication
No.2000-0037442 which discloses that a mileage point of each gamer is
deposited in an electronic wallet, and the mileage points of a winner
gamer and a loser gamer are settled through the electronic wallets.
Owing to a substantial economic effect on gamers, this gambling
game makes gamers sincerely participate in the game. Thus, the
gambling game may prevent gamers from playing games insincerely
only with the thought of time.
Meanwhile, ADSL service realizing digital communications through a telephone line which is a relatively stable infrastructure is
recently widely spread (occupying about 70% of total Internet users,
reported by Yonhap news, Jun. 10th. 2001). The number of the
Internet users using the ADSL service is predicted to rapidly increase
and be saturated soon.
DISCLOSURE OF INVENTION
The present invention is designed to solve the problems of the
prior art, and therefore an object of the present invention is to provide a
method of imposing a differential game fee according to victory or defeat
of a gambling game by adding up the game fee to ADSL service charge.
This object, other incidental ends and advantages of the invention
will hereinafter appear in the progress of the disclosure and as pointed
out in the appended claims.
In order to accomplish the above object, the present invention
provides a method of imposing a gambling game fee by adding up to an
ADSL service charge, which comprises the steps of: (A) a gamer
accessing a service server through a computer system using the ADSL
service and playing a network gambling game with other gamers; (B) the
service server differentially calculating a game fee of the gamer
depending on victory or defeat of the network game at the end of the
game; and (C) the service server transmitting a breakdown of the calculated game fee to a service provider of the ADSL service by data
communications and requesting the ADSL service provider to impose
the game fee by adding up to an ADSL service charge.
Preferably, the gamer inputs ADSL service identifier information
including ADSL service name, user ID and password.
Also, the ADSL service provider in concert with the service server
can receive payments of the game fee added up to the ADSL service
charge from the gamer and then provides the service server with the
game fee of the gamer.

Therefore, the configurations described in the specification and drawn in the figures are just most preferred embodiments of the present
invention, not to show all of the technical aspects of the present
invention. So, it should be understood that there might be various
equalities and modifications to be replaced with them.
FIG. 1 shows a configuration of a network system to which a
method of imposing a gambling game fee adding up to ADSL service
charge in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present
invention is applied.
The network system includes a gamer terminal (10) using ADSL
(Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) service, a telephone office system
(20) providing the ADSL service, an ADSL communication network (40)
for connecting the gamer terminal (10) and the telephone office system
(20), an on-line gambling game service server (40) and a network (50) for
connecting the telephone office system (20) and the gambling game
service server (40).
The gamer terminal (10) is a client system on a gamer side, which
allows a gamer to access the gambling game service server (30) through
the ADSL Internet service and play a network gambling game against
other gamer(s). The gamer terminal (10) includes an ADSL modem for
ADSL service and a web browser program for using Internet. The
gamer terminal (10) can be a common personal computer or a portable
computer. The telephone office system (20) is a computer system on a
service provider side, which provides the ADSL Internet service, or
upstream/ downstream asymmetric digital communication service,
through an existing twisted-pair cable telephone lines. The telephone
office system (20) receives a breakdown of a gambling game fee of a
gamer from the gambling game service server (30), and then imposes
the game fee adding up to an ADSL service charge on the gamer.
According to this invention, it is preferable that the telephone
office system (20) includes information related to ADSL service users in
database and provides user certification to the gambling game service
server (30) when required.
The gambling game service server (30) is a server system that
provides the network gambling game(s) to be executed on the web. The
gambling game service server (30) differentially calculates a game fee of
each gamer depending on a result of the game and provides a
breakdown of the game fee to the telephone office system (20) through
data communications so that the game fee is added up to an ADSL
service charge when imposed.
As described above, the gamer terminal (10) and the telephone
office system (20) are connected through the ADSL communication
network (40). The communication network (50) supports data
communications between the telephone office system (20) and the gambling game service server (10). Preferably, wire Internet network
based on world wide web (WWW) is applied as the communication
network (50).
Though it is exemplarily described that the gambling game service
server (30) itself provides various network games, the gambling game
service server (30) may also relay various network games through a
plurality of other affiliated game servers.
FIG. 2 schematically shows a functional configuration of the
gambling game service server according to a preferred embodiment of
the present invention.
The gambling game service server (30) includes a server engine
(32), a plurality of web pages (34), a gamer managing module (36a), a
gambling game providing module (36b), a game result information
obtaining module (36c), a game fee calculating module (36d), a game fee
imposition requesting module (36e), a gamer information DB (38a), a
gambling game DB (38b), a game result information DB (38c) and a
game fee breakdown DB (38d).
The server engine (32) provides various web pages (34) to the
gamer terminal (10) accessing through the ADSL Internet service and
provides a platform for server-side programs such as above-mentioned
modules (36a ~ 36e).
At this point, the web page (34) is preferably made in a HTML format. But, the web page may be made in any format that can be
read out by a computer system.
The gamer managing module (36a) carries out accepting a request
of member registration and stores and manages personal information
input as the gamer requests member registration, log-in information
including ID and password and ADSL service identifier information in
the gamer information DB (38a). The gamer managing module (36a)
also carries out authorizing whether a gamer who trying to log in using
ID and password is a proper user.
The gambling game providing module (36b) is a program that
provides network gambling games to be executed on the web. For this,
the gambling game providing module (36b) works together with the
gambling game DB (38b) storing the gambling game program. The
gambling game providing module (36b) also helps the gamer to select an
opponent gamer through its arrangement.
The game result information obtaining module (36c) is a program
that obtains the game result information such as winner/ loser and
game using time of a gambling game executed among gamers and stores
and manages the game result information in the game result
information DB (38c).
The game fee calculating module (36d) differentially calculates a
game fee of each gamer in a way of charging a game fee of a winner gamer to a loser gamer by using the obtained game result information.
The game fee calculating module (36d) also manages and stores
information related to the game fee in the game fee breakdown DB
(38d).
The game fee imposition requesting module (36e) is a program
that provides a breakdown of the calculated game fee of each gamer to
the telephone office system (20) through communication networks (50)
and requests to charge the game fee to be added up to the ADSL service
charge.
FIG. 3 is a flow chart for illustrating the process of imposing a
gambling game fee adding up to ADSL service charge in accordance
with a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
A gamer using ADSL Internet service accesses the gambling game
service server (30) and then establishes data link to execute a gambling
game on line through his/her own computer system.
In other words, the gamer accesses a URL representing the
gambling game service server (30) using a web browser in the user
terminal (10), and then the user may check a web page corresponding
to the URL, which is transmitted from the gambling game server (30)
and displayed on the screen of web browser.
Thereafter, as a usual process, the gamer proceeds member
registration for the usage of service (step SI 00). The gambling game service server (30) accepts the member registration of the gamer and
stores input information of the gamer in the gamer information DB
(38a).
At this point, the gamer information includes log-in information
such as ID and password and ADSL service identifier information such
as ADSL service name (e.g. Megapass of Korean Telecom Co. Ltd.), user
ID, password or the like.
Preferably, the gambling game service server (30) accepts the
member registration properly only after checking that the gamer uses
ADSL service through data communications with the computer system
(20) of the corresponding ADSL service provider, in the member
registration process.
The gamer registered as a member logs in the server using
his/her own ID and password, and then the gambling game service
server (30) performs certification of the gamer by using the gamer
information DB (38a) (step S200).
If the gamer is certified proper, the gambling game service server
(30) provides a web page on which various service menus are displayed.
The gamer then requests the usage of a desired gambling game on the
provided web page (step S300).
The gambling game service server (30) then shows other gamers
who are waiting for executing the corresponding gambling game so that the gamer may select an opponent gamer among them (step S400).
At this time, the process of configuring gamers participating in a
game can be performed in a manner commonly adopted in a multi-user
network game.
After the participants in the gambling game are configured as
above, the gambling game service server (30) provides the corresponding
gambling game to be executed on the web by using the gambling game
DB (38b). Then, the gamer progresses the gambling game displayed on
the monitor screen against the opponent gamer by using an input
device such as a keyboard (step S500).
The gambling game is over at the time that a winner or loser is
concluded (step S600). If the gambling game is concluded, the
gambling game service server (30) obtains the game result information
such as victory/ defeat data and game using time and then stores the
information in the game result information DB (38c) (step S700).
Then, the gambling game service server (30) calculates a game fee
of each gamer for the gambling game differentially (step S800), and
displays the calculated game fee through a web page for the gamers to
check.
FIG. 4 shows the step S800 in more detail. Referring to FIG. 4,
the gambling game service server (30) calculates an original game fee of
a gamer for the enjoyed gambling game (step S800a). The original game fee may be calculated based on game using time.
The gambling game service server (30) then determines whether
the gamer is a winner gamer based on the game result (step S800b). If
the gamer is a winner gamer, the calculated original game fee is not
imposed to the gamer. But, if the gamer is not a winner gamer but a
loser gamer, the original game fee of the winner gamer is imposed on
the loser gamer together with the original game fee of the loser gamer
(step S800c).
Then, a breakdown of the imposed game fee is stored in the game
fee breakdown DB (38d), and the breakdown is output and displayed on
a web page (step S800d).
Referring to FIG. 3 again, at a predetermined time, the gambling
game service server (30) transmits the game fee breakdown of the gamer,
stored in the DB (38d), to a computer system of the ADSL service
provider so that the corresponding game fee is imposed on the
corresponding gamer by being added up to an ADSL service charge (step
S900).
FIG. 5 shows the step S900 in more detail. Referring to FIG. 5,
the gambling game service server (30) firstly determines whether it
comes the time to transmit the game fee breakdown (step S900a). If
the time comes, the gambling game service server (30) identifies gamers
who need to pay game fees by using the game fee breakdown DB (38d) (step S900b). Then, the gambling game service server (30) checks an
ADSL service provider, which is used by an identified gamer, from the
gamer information DB (38a) (step S900c). The gambling game service
server (30) then extracts the game fee breakdown of the corresponding
gamer from the game fee breakdown DB (38d) (step S900d), and then
transmits the breakdown to a computer system (20) of the checked
ADSL service provider together with the gamer identification
information (step S900e).
At this time, the gamer identification information includes ID and
password of the gamer used for the ADSL service. This information is
extracted from the gamer information DB (38a).
Hereby, the method of imposing a game fee adding up to an ADSL
service charge according to the present invention is completed.
In the above, the gambling game service server (30) stores an IP
address specifying the computer system (20) of the ADSL service
provider. Thus, the gambling game service server (30) connects the IP
address to transmit the game fee breakdown of the gamer.
The ADSL service provider then adds up the transmitted game fee
of a gamer as an item of an ADSL service charge of the corresponding
gamer. The ADSL service provider also pays the game fee to the
gambling game service server (30) from money paid by the gamer after
settlement of the ADSL service charge. In the fact that an ADSL service charge is currently added up
telephone charges, it could be considered that the game fee is added up
to the telephone charges.
The present invention has been described in detail. However, it
should be understood that the detailed description and specific
examples, while indicating preferred embodiments of the invention, are
given by way of illustration only, since various changes and
modifications within the spirit and scope of the invention will become
apparent to those skilled in the art from this detailed description.
INDUSTRIAL APPLICABILITY
According to the method of imposing a game fee adding up to an
ADSL service charge of the present invention, there is provided more
differentiated gambling game method, so attracting stronger interest of
gamers. This method makes gamers be more sincere to gambling
games, so contributing to making the sound game cultures. In
addition, since the game fee is imposed adding up to an ADSL service
charge, the gambling game service provider may lessen a burden of the
imposing business. The ADSL service provider can also levy a charge
for imposition agency business from the gambling game service provider.
Furthermore, this method makes gamers more convenient since the
gamers may check and pay both charges required for the gambling game in a bundle.
