Abstract

Apparatus and method facilitates communications between an implanted component (1405) and an external component (950) of a medical device system through a relaying module (1415). The medical device system provides treatment to a patient for a nervous system disorder. The relaying module (1415) (which may be worn by the patient) provides telemetry channels between the implanted component (1405) and the relaying module (1415) and between the telemetry module (1421) and the external component (950). With an implantable configuration the implanted component (1405) comprises a monitoring (20) componet, a treatment therapy unit (30), an interfacing unit (22), and a processing unit (24), and the external component comprises a programmer (23). With a hybrid configuration the implanted component (953) comprises a monitoring element (952), a treatment delivery unit (955), and an interfacing unit (951), and the external component comprises a processing unit (950). With an external configuration, the implanted component comprises a monitoring element (101) and a treatment delivery unit (107), and the external component comprises an interfacing unit (103) and a processing unit (105).
