Abstract

An improved electrode comprises a metallised carbon-insulator composite. The electrode shows improved microelectrode array-like behaviour. The composite is most preferably a ruthenium-modified carbon-insulator composite. The insulator may be, for example, an epoxy resin or PTFE. A method for the manufacture of the electrode is also provided, together with a free available chlorine sensor which comprises an electrode of the aforementioned type. The electrodes may also be used as components of, for example, fuel cells, primary or secondary cells for batteries, electrolysers and electrochemical sensors.
