Abstract

A resealable flip top beverage can lid comprising a lid member having a seal defined by a scoreline, a tab pivotally mounted over said lid member, overlying said seal. Said tab having a hole punching lip and an extended Lifting section when lifted would cause the hole punching lip to punch the seal inwards to create an opening for dispensing of liquid. A resealing means is provided in the lower periphery of said lifting section so that when said lifting section is rotated to abut the seal, it would close the opening.

Description

A RESEALABLE FLIP-TOP BEVERAGE CAN LID
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to the field of container closures but more particularly to the type having resealable means .
Beverage cans when opened had to be consumed of its content entirely, otherwise contaminants such as dust, sand and insects would get into the lid causing serious health hazards thereon.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
It is therefore the primary object of the present invention to provide a resealing means to the lid where it may consists of magnets, glues, rubber, plastic gaskets or other materials that are incorporated on its tab providing easy access to resealing purposes.
Another object is to provide a novel resealing means that practically provide an extra seal to the opening of the lid. Still an object is to provide a novel resealing means to the lid so that even if the content of the beverage can is not consumed, the resealing means enable the remaining content thereof still carbonated and fresh.
These and other features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent upon reading the following detailed description, taken in conjunction with the appended drawings, which illustrate, by way of example, the principles of the invention.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Fig. 1 is an exploded perspective view of the lid of a fragmented beverage can with an improved tab embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a top view of the beverage can already punched open by the tab
Fig. 3 is a top view of the beverage can showing the opening of the beverage can being resealed by the tab. Fig. 4a is a cross sectional view taken along line 3-3 of Fig. 3 showing the first embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 4b is a cross sectional view taken along line 3-3 of Fig. 3 showing the second embodiment of the invention.

Fig. 4d is a cross sectional view taken along line 3-3 of Fig. 3 showing the fourth embodiment of the invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Referring now to the several views of the drawings wherein like reference numerals designate same parts throughout, there is shown my invention for a resealable flip-top beverage can lid generally designated as 10.
Said beverage can lid includes a lid member 11 having a seal 12 define by scoreline 13. A tab 14 is pivotally mounted over said lid member 11 by a rivet 15 through a securing section S overlying said seal 12. Said tab 14 having a hole punching lip 16 and an extended lifting section 17 opposing said hole punching lip 16,
The scoreline 13 only forms a weak section in the lid member and it does not break the seal 12. One section of the seal 12 is not scored so that it does not break off when punched but remains attached to the lid member 11.
Said lifting section 17 of the tab 14 when lifted would cause the hole punching lip 16 to punch the seal 12 inwards to create an opening 18 for liquid/cola dispensing.
The lifting section 17 of the tab 14 has scorelines provided thereon which can be punched open defining liquid hole 17a and an air hole 17b for easy dispensing of liquid.
Said lifting section 17 of the tab 14 can already be provided with preformed liquid hole 17a and air hole 17b being closed with a detachable sealing means (not shown) which can be peeled open by pulling off said sealing means. Said sealing means is attached to said lifting section 17 by means of adhesive, glue or the like.
In its first embodiment, the lower periphery of the lifting section 17 has magnet 19 or magnetized such that when rotated to abut the seal 12, it would close the opening 18 resealing the lid member 11. To open the beverage can, the punching lip 16 is pressed to disengage the lifting section 17 with the seal 12 and rotated again.
In its second embodiment, the lower periphery of the lifting section is provided with glue 20 or other sticky substance such that when rotated to abut the seal, it would close the opening 18 resealing the lid member 11.
In its third embodiment, the lower periphery of the lifting section 17 is provided with a rubber gasket 21 having an annular groove 22 thereon. When this lifting section 17 is pressed against the seal 12, the lip of the opening 18 would be lodge on the annular groove 22 closing the opening 18. To open, the lifting section 17 is lifted to dislodge the rubber gasket 21 against the lip of the opening 18. Said rubber gasket 21 could be replace with plastic materials .
In its fourth embodiment, the rubber gasket 21 with annular groove 22 is combined with the magnet 19 of the above embodiments to close the opening 18.
Said securing section S maybe made flexible or elastic which when said lifting section 17 of the tab 14 was lifted to punch the seal 12 said tab 14 can be overturn and said resealing means (18, 19, 20) can be provided instead on the upper periphery of said lifting section 17 to seal said opening 18.
Said tab 14 may also be provided with a guiderail (not shown) underneath thereon to accommodate said rivet 15 which in this case is fixedly attached to the seal 12 of said lid member 11. The liquid hole 17a and air hole 17b are then provided in the punching lip 16, as well as the resealing means (19, 20, 21) in the lower periphery of said punching lip 16 instead of the lifting section 17. To seal the opening 18, the tab 14 maybe slide, through the rivet 15 and the guiderail to abut the seal 12 closing the opening 18 and resealing the lid 11. While the invention has been described in details, it is to be clearly understood by those skilled in the art that the invention is not limited thereto, but also encompasses any modifications within the scope of the appended claims.
