Abstract

Methods and systems for formulating an On-Line Analytical Processing type query for a relational database without requiring the user to understand or learn a complex syntax are provided. Some embodiments provide a graphical user interface, eliminating a need for a query builder to know the syntax. The techniques define the query as comprising connectors, working relations, organizers, selectors, criteria evaluators, arithmetic calculators, validators and result viewer. A query structured according to these techniques can be executed using any suitable programming language and/or directly from different representations of the query, including graphical, textual, and/or hybrid representations.
