Abstract

An information system for searching for language- independent information consisting of a form for users (1), a source of information (2) and a translation module (3) which makes it possible to obtain summary translations (5) and gradually save query results in a database (6). The form (1) contains entry fields for user queries regarding information sources (2) and entry fields for the translation module (3) with pre-selected languages. The user can select desired summaries of which the fulltext is then real time translated into the origin language.

Description

Information System for Searching for Language-Independent Data
Technical Field
This technical solution relates to an information system devoted to collecting, sorting and transferring data. The system runs round the clock and tracks searches, translations and the sorting of up-to-date information which can be stored to create a database of previously selected information and translated into a language suitable for the user.
The State of Technology to Date
At present, most people carry out text-based information searches using Internet search engines which, allow queries based on the input of keywords. Users retrieve the results of their queries in the form of lists of short summaries with links to the Web pages where the complete documents are found. The information is arranged chiefly according to the occurrence frequency of the query keywords, regardless of their meanings (synonyms, underlined terms, context, multiple meanings are ignored). The main drawback of present-day search methods is that they don't take into account any of the connotations bound up with either the search query or the retrieved documents. The words in the query and the returned documents are interpreted as nothing but strings of characters.
The Basis of the Technical Solution
These drawbacks are largely overcome by the information system, on the basis of which the technical solution collects, sorts, translates and transfers data. The technical solution is based on the fact that the information system comprises forms (input masks) for the users of information sources, data from an information unit and a translation module linked to the form for both the user and the data. The form encompasses individual editions which sort information based on selected fields and allows users to browse within themes and across languages. If users don't understand a foreign-language document within a particular theme, they can use a translation module — they can use a form to have the items selected in the form translated. Users thus have access to an integrated machine translation in real time and obtain data from the information system which are sorted according to fields independently of structure. Then, users can save their results with the help of forms and thereby create a database in a particular field in the languages they feel comfortable in.
Overview of Diagrams on the Drawing The attached drawing serves to explain the technical solution in greater detail; diagram 1 schematically represents the information system as a whole and diagram 2 represents the form.
Example of the Technical Design in Practice
An English-speaking user is interested in information on neighborhoods in German. The user inputs neighborhoods hi the form 1. Next, a selection of summaries of relevant documents on the subject in question is displayed in English and other supported languages, including German. By entering the request in the form I, the user selects the German language and has the search results 5 translated in real time into English with the help of the translation module 3. Then, the user selects one or more articles based on the translated summaries ,5, enters a translation request in the form i and once again has them translated into English in real time. The user saves the information thus retrieved and translated into the selected language in the user's database 6.
Industrial Use
The information system based on the technical solution in question may be used in places where research and development are done whenever it is necessary to obtain information which is sorted and language independent, but translated into one or more languages the user knows.
