Abstract
A peritoneal dialysis system includes: a dialysis fluid container associated with an identifier (118); a reader for reading the identifier (147); a signal transmitter (41) for communicating data based on the identifier; and a patient transfer (150) set for semi-permanent connection to a patient, the patient transfer set including: (i) a signal receiver (141) for receiving the data sent by the signal transmitter, (ii) an output device (146) for communicating with the patient, and (iii) electronics configured to received the data and command the output device to communicate with the patient accordingly.
Claims
1. A peritoneal dialysis system (10) comprising; a dialysis fluid container associated with an identifier (120); a reader (147) for reading the identifier (120); a signal transmitter (41) for communicating data based on the identifier (120); and a patient transfer set (150) for semi-permanent connection to a patient (P), the patient transfer set (150) including:
(i) a signal receiver (141) for receiving the data sent by the signal transmitter
(41),
(ϋ) an output device (145, 146) for communicating with the patient (P), and (in) electronics (142a, 142b) configured to receive the data and command the output device (145, 146) to communicate with the patient (P) accordingly.
2. The peritoneal dialysis system (10) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the reader (147) and the signal transmitter (141) are housed in a common unit (140).
3. The peritoneal dialysis system (10) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the unit (140) further includes a port (144) configured to receive a patient data memory device (146).
4. The peritoneal dialysis system (10) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the unit (140) includes a docking area (140) configured to receive and hold a tube extending from the dialysis fluid container, the reader (147) reading the identifier (120) from the received tube.
5. The peritoneal dialysis system (10) according to any one of the preceding claims, the docking area (140) configured to receive and hold a connector (118) located at an end of the tube, the reader (147) reading the identifier (120) from the receiving connector (118).

6. The peritoneal dialysis system (10) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the signal transmitter (41) and signal receiver (141) are configured to communicate the data wirelessly.
7. The peritoneal dialysis system (10) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the signal transmitter (41) and the signal receiver (141) are each part of a transceiver for transmitting and receiving data.
8. The peritoneal dialysis system (10) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the identifier (120) identifies at least one of: (i) dialysis fluid type, (ii) dialysis fluid volume, and (iii) dialysis fluid expiration data.
9. The peritoneal dialysis system (10) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the data includes a dwell duration, the patient transfer set (150) including a start input that the patient activates upon completion of a fill from the dialysis fluid container, the dwell duration initiated upon activation of the start input.
10. The peritoneal dialysis system (10) according to any one of the preceding claims, the output device (145, 146) configured to alert the patient (P) when the dwell duration has ended or is about to end.
11. The peritoneal dialysis system (10) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the system (10) is configured to determine the dwell duration based on the identifier (120) and at least one patient-specific parameter.
12. The peritoneal dialysis system (10) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the data includes (i) a fill duration, after which it is assumed a fill from the dialysis fluid container is completed, and (ii) a dwell duration that begins after the fill duration.
13. The peritoneal dialysis system (10) according to any one of the preceding claims, the output device (145, 146) configured to alert the patient (P) of at least one of: (i) the fill duration and (ii) when the dwell duration has ended or is about to end.

14. The peritoneal dialysis system (10) according to any one of the preceding claims, the output device (145, 146) configured to alert the patient (P) that the fill duration is about to begin.
15. The peritoneal dialysis system (10) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the system (10) is configured to determine the dwell duration based on the identifier (120) and at least one patient-specific parameter.
16. The peritoneal dialysis system (10) according to any one of the preceding claims, which includes a sensor (148) positioned adjacent to the reader (147), the sensor (148) sensing the presence or absence of a member (118) bearing the identifier (120), and which is configured to begin a running of the fill duration upon a sensed removal of the member (118) and the identifier (120) from the reader (147).

The peritoneal dialysis system (10) according to any one of the preceding claims, the data including solution type, solution volume and at least one patient-specific parameter, the electronics (142a, 142b) configured to determine at least one of a fill duration, a dwell duration and a start drain time from the data.
18. A peritoneal dialysis system (10) comprising: a dialysis fluid container associated with an identifier (120); a reader (147) for reading the identifier (120); a signal transmitter (41) configured to communicate a dwell duration determined at least in part from the identifier (120); and a patient transfer set (150) for semi-permanent connection to a patient (P), the patient transfer set (150) including:
(i) a signal receiver (141) for receiving the dwell duration sent by the signal transmitter (41); and
(ϋ) an output device (145, 146) configured to communicate the dwell duration to the patient (P).
19. The peritoneal dialysis system (10) according to aαy one of the preceding claims, the patient transfer set (150) further including an input device (152) and electronics (142) configured to begin a running of the dwell duration upon a patient (P) activating the input.
20. The peritoneal dialysis system (10) according to any one of the preceding claims, the identifier (120) identifying at least one of (i) dialysis fluid type and (ii) dialysis fluid volume, which are used to determine the dwell duration in combination with at least one patient specific parameter.
21. The peritoneal dialysis system (10) according to any one of the preceding claims, which includes a unit (140) housing the reader (147) and the signal transmitter (41), the unit (130) further including electronics (42a, 42b) configured to determine the dwell duration from the identifier (120).

The peritoneal dialysis system (10) according to any one of the preceding claims, the signal transmitter (41) further configured to communicate a fill duration, after which it is assumed that a fill from the dialysis fluid container is completed, the dwell duration beginning automatically after the fill duration.
23. A peritoneal dialysis system (10) comprising: a dialysis fluid container associated with an identifier (120); a reader (147) for reading the identifier (120); a signal transmitter (41) configured to communicate (i) a fill duration, after which it is assumed that a fill from the dialysis fluid container is completed and (ii) a dwell duration based, at least in part, on the identifier (120); a sensor (148) positioned to sense the presence of a member (118) bearing the identifier (120); and a patient transfer set (150) for semi-permanent connection to a patient (P), the patient transfer set (150) including a signal receiver (141) for receiving the fill duration and the dwell duration, the patient transfer set (150) configured to begin a running of the fill duration upon receiving a signal from the transmitter (41) indicating that the sensor (148) sensed a removal of the member (118) from a location of the reader (147) and the sensor (148).
