A DISPLAY UNIT FOR ELECTRICAL DOMESTIC APPLIANCES Technical Field
This invention relates to the display units used on electrical appliances.
The aesthetical features of the electrical appliances, particularly of the household white goods, play an important role in user preferences. For instance, one of the most visual components of the cooling devices, such as refrigerators, is the display on the control panel and the frame thereof. A high quality, aesthetic appearance can be achieved when In-Mold Decoration (IMD) is employed for manufacturing such control panels. However, use of this method results in an increase in the costs for these products. The published patent application US5227222 is an example where a display panel manufactured by the In-Mold Decoration (IMD) method is disclosed. The invention, the detailed description of which is below, discloses display units having the same visual characteristics, which are manufactured more cost effectively than the known In Mold Decoration (IMD).
Brief Description of the Invention
The electrical appliance of the invention comprises a display unit which has at least one display cover, a surface-printed sheet and an electronic control device. In the assembled state of the unit in the electrical appliance, the transparent surface-printed sheet is glued to the upper surface of the cover, the upper surface being transparent or opaque and the electronic control device being seated in the lower or inner portion of the cover. The unit is mounted on the slot on at least one side of the electrical appliance and, the upper surface of the surface-printed sheet is at the same level with the upper surface of the electrical appliance.
The objective of the Invention
The aim of this invention is to provide a display unit for electrical appliances. Another aim of the invention is to provide a display unit which is at the same level with the surface of the electrical appliance and which is aesthetically in harmony with the appliance surface.
A further aim of the invention is to provide an easy-to-manufacture, cheap and reliable display unit for electrical appliances.

Figure 1 illustrates the disassembled state of the display unit (A) that is used on the electrical appliance of the invention. The display unit (A) comprises at least one display cover (1), a surface-printed sheet (2) and an electronic control device (not shown). In the assembled state of the unit (A), the transparent surface-printed sheet (2) is glued to the upper surface (3) of the cover (1), and the electronic control device being seated in the lower or inner portion of the cover (1). The unit (A) is seated into the slot which is allocated for the unit on the electrical appliance (not shown).
For the unit (A) to be used on the electrical appliance of the invention, a slot (8) (illustrated in Figure 2), having a size and form that receives only the unit (A), is provided on at least one surface (preferably on the control panel) of the appliance. When the unit (A) is mounted on the said slot (8), the upper surface (6) of the surface-printed sheet (2) is leveled with the upper surface (9) of the appliance. Since the surface-printed sheet (2) completely (without leaving any space) covers the slot opening on the appliance surface (9), visual continuity and aesthetic integrity can be achieved over the surface (9) of the appliance.
There is at least one tab (5) provided on at least one side surface (4) or the lower surface of the cover (1) (tab is illustrated on the side surface (4) in the drawings). When the unit (A) is seated into the slot (8), the said tab (5) resiliently snaps into at least one tab (10) in the slot (8) (illustrated in Figure 2), ensuring that the unit (A) is fastened into the slot (8).
The upper surface (3) of the display cover (1) has such a transparency (for instance, of acrylic or polycarbonate material) to allow the above mentioned electronic control device to be viewed. Similarly, the surface-printed sheet is transparent, too (for instance, of acrylic or polycarbonate material). Alternatively, the upper surface (3) of the display cover (1) may be opaque. In this case, there are holes (1 1) (shown in Figure 3) provided on the upper surface (3) so that the light can reach the indicators on the surface-printed sheet (2).
In addition, the adhesive material that glues the surface-printed sheet (2) to the upper surface (3) is transparent as well. Indicators (7), which are imprinted with various inscriptions and/or symbols, are provided on the surface-printed sheet (2). These indicators (7) facilitate (as a light indicator or a lighting display) visual indication of the programmed functions of the electronic control device to the user. In the case the electronic control device comprises a touch sensitive button (preferably illuminated) or a touch display, it is ensured that the user can enter commands just by touching the indicators (7).
Thanks to the display unit developed, a product, which is manufactured more cost effectively than the known display units manufactured by In Mold Decoration (IMD) technique while having the same visual characteristics, is obtained.
