Description

A SYSTEM FOR PROVIDING A SINGLE INDICATIVE PRICE DATA OF A
GEMSTONE FROM A GEMSTONE INVENTORY DATABASE AND A METHOD
THEREOF
Technical Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a system for providing a single indicative price data of a gemstone from a gemstone inventory database and a method thereof.
Background
[0002] Gemstones, e.g. diamonds, have been one of the mostly highly sought after types of material for jewellery. Diamond is one of the most popular gemstones. The value of each diamond is assessed based on many factors. Typically, a diamond is graded based on factors like its cut, colour, clarity and carat, i.e. 4 C's. Each factor is divided into numerous grades to identify the quality of the diamond. For example, the colour of a diamond can be divided into grade D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K , L & M. With the number of factors and grades within each factor, it would not be easy for a consumer to find out about the price of a diamond.
[0003] There are many online platforms available to help consumers find out about the price of a diamond of a certain specification. However, some of the online platforms may be difficult to use and requires a certain level of knowledge before the consumers are able to use the platforms. There are also platforms which provide a substantially long list of diamond specifications and prices based on the specification provided by the consumers. Often, the consumers would be confused and be in a dilemma from the number of choices that they have before them. In this way, the consumer would not have an enjoyable and relaxing purchasing experience.
[0004] In addition, it is common that online platforms provide a list of prices which are based on data obtained from certain databases. Consumers who have the list of prices would only be able to use it as a reference when they purchase the diamonds in a shop or online. It is also common that although the prices in the list may be lower than the prices available in the shop or online, the consumer would not be able to find a diamond of those prices easily.
[0005] Accordingly, the present invention aims to overcome the abovementioned issues. Summary

[0051] Gemstone application 120 may provide the user the price data for a pair of gemstones based on the single indicative price data 134 of the gemstone (not shown in Fig. 5). Gemstone application 120 may calculate the price data for the pair of gemstones based on the single indicative price data of the gemstone. Gemstone application 120 may calculate and provide the user the price data for two or more gemstones based on the single indicative price data of the gemstone.
[0052] Referring to Fig. 5, the gemstone application 120 may provide the user the price data for a pair of earrings 158. In this case, the gemstone application 120 may calculate the price data for a pair of earrings 158 based on the price data of the pair of gemstones or the single indicative price data 134. Price data of the pair of earrings 158 may be higher than twice the single indicative price data 134 or the price data for pair of gemstones as the price data of the pair of earrings 158 may include the price data of the casings for the pair of earrings and cost of workmanship to frame the pair of gemstones.
[0053] As shown in Fig. 5, the gemstone application 120 may provide a purchase input interface 148 configured to receive user's purchase instruction to purchase the pair of gemstones or the pair of earrings. [0054] As shown in Fig. 5, the gemstone application 120 may provide a certified price data 160 as the gemstone price data, the price data of the pair of gemstones, and/or the price data of the pair of earrings. Certified price data may be the price of the gemstone that has been certified by an international certification organization, e.g. Gemological Institute of America (GIA). As shown in Fig. 5, the certified price data may be higher than the price data for pair of earrings.
[0055] Fig. 6 shows an exemplary method 1000 for providing the single indicative price data 134 of a gemstone in the gemstone inventory database 110. Method 1000 includes receiving a gemstone specification from a user in 1100, identifying an inventory gemstone record in the gemstone inventory database 110 using the gemstone specification in 1200, retrieving the inventory gemstone price data of the inventory gemstone record from the gemstone inventory database in 1300 such that the inventory gemstone price data is used as the single indicative price data 134 and providing the single indicative price data 134 to the user in 1400.
[0056] Referring to Fig. 2, the gemstone application 120 may provide the first user interface 122 which may include the first input interface 124 configured to receive the gemstone specification from the user. User may input the gemstone specification of the gemstone that he or she wishes to find an indicative price for. For example, referring to Fig. 2, the user wishes to find an indicative price or suggested price for a gemstone of 0.20 carat, grade D colour and grade VS 1 clarity. Upon completing the input of the gemstone specification in the first input interface 124, the gemstone application 120 may, upon confirmation of the entry of gemstone specification by the user, or the gemstone application 120 may automatically search the gemstone inventory database 110 for the inventory gemstone record having the gemstone specification. Gemstone application 120 may communicate with the server 102 to access the gemstone inventory database 110 using the gemstone specification. Gemstone application 120 may retrieve the inventory gemstone price data of the gemstone with the gemstone specification. Inventory gemstone price data may be the selling price of the inventory gemstone in the gemstone inventory. Inventory gemstone price data may be used as the single indicative price data that is provided to user. Gemstone application 120 provides user with a single indicative price data 134. In this way, the gemstone application provides a simple and straightforward gemstone price to the user. Comparatively, some applications provide a list of gemstone prices which tend to cause confusion and dilemma to the user. [0057] Gemstone application 120 may provide user with the option to purchase the gemstone based on the single indicative price data 134. User may click on the purchase input interface (not shown in Fig. 2) to purchase the gemstone at the price indicated by the single indicative price data 134. As the single indicative price data 134 is based on the inventory gemstone price data of an inventory gemstone in the inventory, there will be available gemstones in the gemstone inventory and the user may purchase the gemstone at the single indicative price data 134 provided. In another words, the user may be guaranteed the purchase of the gemstone shown in the second user interface 150 (refer to Fig. 5).
[0058] Gemstone application 120 may provide user with an availability input interface 138 to request for user confirmation to check the availability of a gemstone as specified in the gemstone specification. User may click the availability input interface 138 to request to check the availability of the gemstone with the gemstone specification.
[0059] Fig. 7 shows another exemplary embodiment of first user interface 122. If the gemstone is not available, the gemstone application 120 may provide a null, i.e. zero, as the single indicative price data 134 thus indicates that an inventory gemstone record with the gemstone specification as provided by the user is not available in the gemstone inventory.
[0060] Referring to Fig. 8, if the user click on the availability input interface 138 (not shown in Fig. 8) to check for the availability of the gemstone when the single indicative price data 138 is null, gemstone application 120 may provide an alternative inventory gemstone record having another gemstone specification 162 from the gemstone inventory database 110 as the inventory gemstone record based on the gemstone specification is not found in the gemstone inventory database 110 (not shown in Fig. 8). For example, referring to Fig. 7, a user wishes to obtain an indicative price of a gemstone with gemstone specification as follows: a heart shaped gemstone with a carat weight of 0.20, a colour of grade D and a clarity of grade VS 1. After searching the gemstone inventory database 110, the gemstone application 120 may not find an inventory gemstone record of the gemstone specification. Accordingly, as shown in Fig. 8, the gemstone application 120 may provide an alternative gemstone record with an alternative gemstone specification 162 as follows: a pair heart shaped gemstones with a carat weight of 0.50, a colour of grade E, and a clarity of grade VVS 1. In addition, in the example, the gemstone application 120 may provide the price data for the pair of earrings and the option to purchase the pair of earrings. Gemstone application 120 may direct the user to a website for the purchase of the pair of earrings. Clearly, the gemstone application 120 may display a single price at a time so as to simplify or eliminate the user's confusion and dilemma.
[0061] Mobile device 180 may be configured to download the gemstone application 120 from the server 102. Mobile device 180 may include a tablet, a smartphone, or a laptop.
[0062] Mobile device 180 may include a display screen configured to display the gemstone application 120. As such, providing the single indicative price data may include displaying the single indicative price data on a display screen. Mobile device 180 may be a portable computer, e.g. laptop, a smartphone, a tablet or equivalent. A skilled person would understand that the gemstone application 120 may be applicable to a desktop computer.
[0063] Gemstone application 120 may be a web-based program, a software application, or a mobile application, e.g. an iPhone™ application, Android™ application.
[0064] As shown in Fig. 8, the gemstone application 120 may include a video link 172 configured to direct the user to videos clips, a game link 174 configured to direct the user to an entertainment area, e.g. daily lucky draw, and an events link 176 configured to direct the user to an event calendar. Fig. 9 shows a video page comprising a plurality of video clips. User may be directed to the video page by clicking on the video link 172. Fig. 10 shows a entertainment page comprising a game, e.g. lucky draw game. Users may be directed to the entertainment page by clicking the entertainment link 174. Fig. 11 shows an events page comprising a game, e.g. lucky draw game. Users may be directed to the entertainment page by clicking the entertainment link 176.
