Am nächsten Wochenende findet zum dritten mal das Kölner Roboter-Kunst-Festival statt und wenn man sich die Bilder auf deren Website so ansieht, dann ist das ein einziges Real Life Bartertown aus Thunderdome mit feuerspuckenden Robotern.
ROBODONIEN lädt Künstler aus ganz Europa ein, die den Kunst- und Kulturfreistaat Odonien in eine multimediale, interaktive Science-Fiction Szenerie verwandeln. Die Installationen und kinetischen Objekte werden an dem Wochenende vom 10. bis 12. September 2010 in spektakulären Shows präsentiert und bietet den Besuchern eine Fülle von ungewöhnlichen und spannenden Impressionen.
Der Schwerpunkt in diesem Jahr liegt auf Feuer und Chemoakustik. Das feuerspeiende Roboterbiest Lrry 1 – konstruiert und gebändigt von Lyle Rowell – wird sicherlich eines der Höhepunkte des Festivals sein.
Das „Büro für brenzelige Angelegenheiten“ des selbsternannten Pyromantiker Eddie Egal lässt es mit der „Feuerdusche“ zischen, krachen, brennen, donnern und präsentiert das Element Feuer in einer neuen Dimension.Der Eisschnitzkünstler „The Iceman“ Horst Birekoven zeigt seine fantastischen, brennenden Eissäulen und zusammen mit Eddie Egal spektakuläre Fire & Ice Showparts, die dem Festival einen feurigen Rahmen geben.

Transforming Japanese letters into a playful creatures, Bandai's line of shape-shifting animals inform while entertaining.
Called Mojibakeru (Moji is the Japanese word for "character" and bakeru means "to change"), the collection of six plastic toys represent 犬(dog), 虎(tiger), 魚(fish), 馬(horse), 鳥(bird) and 龍(dragon). Each character is available in black, white, yellow and blue, maximizing your language-bending skills.

Nepetalactone is the active ingredient in catnip.* Today we are going to isolate nepetalactone in its pure form through a steam distillation. The distilled liquid will be extracted with an organic solvent (toluene), refined, then evaporated to give the final product.
Now I know what you’re thinking: is it safe for cats to be around such a concentrated extract of catnip? Hell yes! Within reason. And we’re all reasonable people.
