Communication Evolution and Progression Reflection

Communication has been constantly evolving and changing to suit the newly discovered needs and crises in this ever changing, interconnected world. One may recognize a pattern when viewing a timeline displaying communication progression, continuity. Early in the timeline smoke signals are introduced, showing one of the earliest known forms of long-distance communication, a significant advancement in communication technology in terms of accessibility. Fast forward to the discovery of pigeon couriers and although the two forms of communication often embody different elements of written message and use as a signal, both show continuity as they recognize the need for longer range communication. Upon the invention of the microchip an entirely new era of miniaturization began. Society recognized the need for not only communication at a distance, but for communication devices to be portable, meaning compact but powerful. The evolution of microchips led to the iPod, a device able to relay an assortment of songs, and recordings in a single compact device. Facebook unintentionally kickstarted the generation of social media. Sharing a variety of media from user to user across the globe. YouTube added to this media sharing phenomenon with a platform to share videos and comment directly back to the creator, showing the continuity of this interactive media sharing communication option. From pigeons journeying across continents to relay a single message to the click of a button connecting the globe, communication is ever evolving, developing, and continuing to enhance human interaction one connection at a time.
