Heidi the famous cross-eyed opossum goes public

Heidi the opossum is a big celebrity in Germany - and now visitors to her zoo can meet her face-to-face!

The two-year-old became known throughout the world because of her unusual crossed eyes, but has so far lived in a private pen on her own.

Now she's being moved to a fancy new tropical wildlife enclosure so visitors to Liepzig Zoo can check her out.

She got her crossed eyes from eating a poor diet as a youngster which caused a fatty build-up behind the eyes.

Luckily, opossums are nocturnal so they rely mostly on their sense of smell to get around - so her unusual eyes don't make much of a difference.

Experts say they don't cause any pain and there's no risk to her health.

Leipzig Zoo are hoping that having Heidi out in the public it will draw lots more visitors in - using opossum power to make her home more popular.
