| Description |
Once a familiar sight in the GDR, these DUO 4/1 invalid carriages were always orange, a kind of offset Simson Schwalbe but never delivered by Simson. Thanks to @gynti_46 , I can label this a Simson DUO, the DDR equivalent to the Greeves or AC Invacar., although looking much less car like. There is indeed a plurality of photos of these on Flickr, mainly in preservation in the digital age. This one was in active service. I think it was photographed in Weimar. Over a thousand of these were built each year between 1973 and 1989 originally by VEB FAB, later VEB Robur using some Simson components. |
