CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference announced its 2019 All-Conference Football Teams on Tuesday, Nov. 26, with 11 members of the Wartburg football team recognized for their performances during the 2019 regular season.
Wartburg collected five First Team and five Second Team selections, along with one named Honorable Mention.
JoJo McNair,
Jason Fisher,
Antonio Santillan,
Kolin Schulte, and
Nic Vetter represented the Orange & Black on the First Team, while
Eli Barrett,
Cedric Dobbins,
Ethan Lape,
John Patrick, and
Noah Dodd earned spots on the Second Team.
Hunter Clasen was an Honorable Mention honoree as a return specialist.
Now a three-time All-Conference First Team award winner, a junior from Joliet, Ill.,
JoJo McNair totaled 30 tackles on the year with three interceptions. He recorded a season-high 10 tackles at Central and returned a 65-yard interception for a touchdown versus Loras.
Jason Fisher, a senior defensive lineman from Nashua, Iowa, earns his first career First Team All-Conference accolade. A Second Team member a year ago, Fisher tallied a career-high 3.5 sacks versus Loras to finish the regular season as the conference leader with six total sacks.
A sophomore linebacker from Davenport, Iowa,
Antonio Santillan led the league with five interceptions and finished second on the team with 83 tackles. He was awarded A-R-C Defensive Player of the Week (Nov. 18) after tallying a career-high 13 tackles along with two fumble recoveries, a sack and a pass breakup versus Loras.
Eli Barrett (Denver, Iowa) and
Cedric Dobbins (Waukee, Iowa) were also defensive leaders for the Knights as members of the secondary. Barrett led the Knights with 84 tackles and finished the regular season as the conference leader with 54 solo tackles. He earned Defensive POTW honors Oct. 21 for his 14-tackle performance at Simpson. Now a two-time Second Team All-A-R-C honoree, Dobbins totaled 38 tackles with a pair of interceptions and 2.5 tackles for loss.
Seniors
Noah Dodd (Janesville, Iowa) and
Kolin Schulte (Anamosa, Iowa) led the Wartburg offense that maintained itself as the top scoring members in the conference, averaging 46.5 points per game. Dodd tallied 21 touchdowns and 1,776 passing yards while leading the A-R-C with a 68 percent completion percentage (135-of-196).
Schulte receives his first career spot on the First Team, a Second Team member in 2018. He tied for the lead in the conference while setting a Wartburg single-season record with 16 receiving touchdowns. He was named the A-R-C Male Athlete and Offensive Player of the Week (Oct. 8) after recording over 100 receiving yards for a third-straight game, tallying career-highs with 11 catches for 190 yards and three touchdowns during the Knights' road win at Buena Vista.
Nic Vetter (Hampton, Iowa),
Ethan Lape (West Union, Iowa), and
John Patrick (Dubuque, Iowa) started each game on the offensive line, helping guide the Knights' offense that led the conference in scoring. Wartburg led the conference with 30 rushing touchdowns and 67 total scores. Vetter receives First Team honors for a second-straight year while the honors for Lape and Patrick are career firsts.
A freshman from Springbrook Iowa,
Hunter Clasen appeared in all 10 regular season contests in Orange & Black, serving as a returner. He ranked second in the A-R-C with 461 kick return yards, averaging 25.6 per return and ranked
third with 139 total punt return yards.
