Curry Udon | Marugame Udon

Serving size:ย Good for 1

Whenever I pass by Marugame Udon in Bonifacio High Street, I have always been intrigued by the long lines in front of it. One night, I decided to make usyoso and took a look at the menu: their regular udon bowls are less than PHP 200! It was a pleasant surprise for me, because from the outside, it looked like an upscale Japanese restaurant. I decided to go there with a friend during early Tuesday lunch, at about 11:30am. Lucky for us, we were first in line! *aw yeah!*

Marugame Udon is self-service, much like your school cafeteria, except for the interiors that give the place major Japanese vibes! ๐Ÿ˜ Fall in line, get a tray, and tell your order. If it’s an udon, it’s served as soon as you order. Along the way, you can get to pick your add-ons: could be an onigiri, katsu, karaage, tempura, or drinks. Then at the end of the counter, pay for your food (and drinks, if any) at the cashier. Before taking a seat, head over to their condiments area for tempura crumbs and spring onions for that extra crunch and freshness. And when you arrive at your table, a liter of water has already been served. Their food service is efficient, that there’s no need for customers to pay for service charge!

I wanted to get something different, so I ordered a regular bowl of their Curry Udon. And it did not disappoint! The curry sauce was packed with flavor, but not too overpowering at the same time, so you can slurp it up to the last drop. They were also generous with the beef, which were soft and easy to chew. The thick udon noodles were cooked al dente, and although I’m a carbo loader, the regular bowl was enough to fill me up. *burp*

In case you’re not a fan of curry, you may try their bestselling Beef Udon, bursting with natural umami and best enjoyed with extra spring onions. ๐Ÿ‘
