Germany's famous Dickmann's marshmallows
Mini Dickmann's, Super Dickmann's, Big Nut Dickmann's... it's starting to get a bit crude, isn't it? Let me introduce you to Dickmann's marshmallows!
Disregarding the slightly rude name, Dickmann's are marshmallows available in Germany (and possibly neighbouring lands?). They come in various sizes, are covered in chocolate (milk, dark or white) and have with a wafer base. One could perhaps compare them to chocolate teacakes however Dickmann's, as mentioned above, have a wafer base as opposed to the usual biscuit base, they're usually much 'taller' than teacakes and the marshmallow inside has a different consistency. Different meaning good mind you!
There are various varieties available including:
Super Dickmann's
'Tall' in shape
Usually covered in milk chocolate
Plenty of marshmallow!
Dickmann's Schoko Strolche
Small/mini in size
Available in milk chocolate flavour or in a mixed box of milk, dark, and white chocolate
Great as a quick snack
At certain times of the year there are also other varieties available including:
Super Dickmann's 'Dicke Eier'
White chocolate marshmallows with sprinkles on top
Available around Easter time
Super Dickmann's 'Dicke Nüsse'
Hazelnut covered marshmallows with a nut-flavoured filling
Shaped like chesnuts
Available around Christmas time
If I had to pick a favourite it would probably be the mini Schoko Strolche due to their size and the fact that they're not as filling as the Super Dickmanns. (I would say not as 'overpowering' but that seems like a strange word to use in the context of marshmallows!). The Dicke Nüsse would be a close second if only that they were not only available at Christmas.
Alternative ideas for Dickmann's
As with most things, there are some rather 'creative' individuals out there who have come up with some rather unusual uses for Dickmanns. Just a quick search will include the following uses for Dickmann's:

Fillings for s'mores (evidently a rather lazy method!)

So next time you're in Germany, make sure to pick up some Dickmann's Marshmallows! Just be careful when transporting them as they do tend to become squished very easily as I found out when I tried to send some in the post... Don't ask!
