With swaying palm trees and playful dolphins dancing in the nearby waters, this idyllic setting is a true tropical paradise.

The 149 rooms and suites are a haven of simplicity, elegance, and comfort. We stayed in the Junior Suite, fit with white shutters, pale woods, and soothing neutrals.. The marble bathroom added a touch of luxury, while the panoramic palm tree views = a delightful tropical twist.

Anantara Iko Resort & Villas

This sleek and chic slice of heaven is perfect for those wanting to leave their holiday feeling good. The hotel has a real focus on health and wellness, offering 70 different activities for guests to enjoy each week (at no extra charge), ranging from guided Royal Palm Forest walks or cycles, to morning tai chi and yoga sessions. For those looking to really commit, three- or five-day retreat packages are also an option – complete with specially tailored menus and spa treatments. The hotel leads out onto a quiet private beach too, so even if you decide to swap a guided meditation session for a lie-in in one of their hard-to-rouse-from beds, a place to find inner peace is still but a stone’s throw away.

Anantara Iko Resort & Villas is also a brilliant shout for foodies, with multiple on-site restaurants ranging from delicious Indian cuisine at Zafran, to Sea.Fire.Salt, the perfect setting for a memorable meal – it looks out onto the waves – which offers the fun and unique concept of having nine different types of local salt to accompany your dish (we loved the smoky one best).

Le Jadis Beach Resort & Wellness Mauritius

The Le Jadis hotel is a great option for those wishing to explore the capital of Port Louis during their stay in Mauritius – but not actually be in the thick of the noise. It’s just a 25-minute drive away from the city, as well as the popular village of Grand-Baie, which offers a bustling market and a livelier nightlife scene when compared to the rest of the island. Le Jadis also has an on-site spa, offering everything from your classic massages and manicures, to the more woo-woo, like ‘chakra cleansing’. When our group popped in for one, one person felt unexpectedly overwhelmed with emotion and wept throughout the session (whereas others didn’t feel… all that much. So, the verdict is still out when it comes to effectiveness – we’ll let you be the judge!).

It's easy to see why Le Jadis spot is so popular with honeymooners too, given its direct access to stunning beachy sunsets, romantic restaurants, suites with swim-up pool, private hammams and much more.

During low season rooms start from £248 per night, during high season rooms begin at £350 per night

Hike the Black River Gorges

What's a holiday without taking in some views that'll last a lifetime? The Black River Gorges, a stunning mountainous national park, certainly offers that and much more – but you'll have to work for it, by lacing up your hiking boots. We promise it's worth it though, as once you reach the peak vantage point (we did our medium-level difficulty trek with the help of a guide from Yanature, who knew the area inside-out), you'll be able to see wildlife galore, including hundreds of birds soaring above the treetops. After the three-hour jaunt, you can also take a dip in the Black River to cool back down.

A three-hour trek through the Black River Gorges with Yanature starts from £34

Relax pool side

If relaxing by the pool or beach is more of your vibe, there's no end to the options. For those wanting to ditch the sand and sea, Nirvana, the exclusive adult only section of Le Méridien Ile Maurice is available. On the poolside menu, choose from a range of Italian specialties and an International selection of light and fresh dishes between lunch and dinner.
