The art of Capoeira

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form centered around survival, liberation, and game play. Created by Africans brought to Brazil during the slave trade, it is a fusion of dance, martial arts, acrobatics, functional fitness, and music. This expressive movement practice has deep cultural roots & a complex history.

About Capoeira

Think of Capoeira as a fluid and strategic movement conversation between two practitioners. Played in a circle called a roda, it is an intricate exchange of kicks, escapes, sweeps, and acrobatic movements. A central element in the practice of Capoeira is traditional music and signature instruments, including the berimbau, atabaque, and pandeiro.
