SOG has really hit a grand slam with this knife. It is spectacular. First, the most critical aspect: the steel. CPMS35VN is a high-grade steel ideally suited for blades that will see heavy use. It's strong, durable and easy to sharpen. The 5" blade length is ideal. The linen micarta handle is tough as a Marine Corps drill instructor, and the ergonomics of the handle give you a solid, sturdy and comfortable grip. The thumb notches atop the spine are robust and feel great. The solid tang simply adds more strength to an already solid piece. The glass-breaker on the butt is equally solid and the lanyard loop hole is ideally positioned. The knife feels great in the hand and is easy to wield. On top of all these great features is the fact that it is American made! Icing on the cake indeed. This knife would be at home in your camp, on your hunting trip, or on your person for everyday carry. The accompanying kydex sheath and belt attachment are strong and easy to use. This is an awesome package, and the price is quite a bargain.Read full review

I have not been pleased with SOG knives lately. In my opinion they have been made more cheaply and have become "gimmicky" compared to the SOG knives of perhaps 20 or 30 years ago. But, I liked the look of this knife in its photos and it seemed to be made of quality materials, judging by its description. So, I took a chance, figuring that I could always return it if I was unhappy with it. Well, I will be keeping this knife. I see a little of the SOG of old here. The feel in the hand, the weight, the build quality ... it's all here. This seems to be a very well-made knife that comes out of the box razor sharp and, I think, will last for quite a while. I can see myself (and plan to do so) carrying this knife into the woods and actually using it. Granted, I have NOT "used" it yet but, first impressions are ... I am very pleased with this knife and would recommend it. Thank you SOG and please keep up the good work. (We don't need anymore knife-flashlight combos. ;-) )Read full review

My Pillar arrived without the neoprene washers which made the belt clip not fit to the scabbard correctly. An email to SOG and washers were on the way immediately. As doe the knife itself: SOG knocked this one out of the park! S35VN steel, awesome design that feels right in the hand. Finger choil made for striking a fero rod and great ergos. I love the scales on this one which seem thin at first until you get to using this knife. The balance being slightly aft of the hilt works well and the pommel is a functional piece of art. The Pillar is now my new camping/hiking companion and worth every penny. Made in the USA, so your hard earned dollars stay home where they benefit us all. The Pillar is instantly my new favorite all around fixed blade workhorse.
