Ibrahim Sunday, former Black Stars midfielder says Ghana’s abysmal performance at major tournaments is as a result of poor selection by the various national team coaches.

Ghana has lost its weight on the continent, having failed to live up to expectations in both its male and female national teams.

This has mounted pressure on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to initiate policies which would get the West African giants back to its glory days.

The former African footballer of the year speaking in an interview with the GNA Sports said it was important to bring onboard quality players who were committed and willing to fight for their country.

“Selection of players is part of the reasons why we cannot perform as a football nation. We should get talented players to play for the national teams and not any other player.”

He said getting mature players with experience in the national teams would help end Ghana’s hunger for trophies and also improve upon their performance on the global stage.

The 78-year-old urged coaches to also include local players who possessed lots of qualities on the field of play in their squad.

He noted that the Ghana Premier League had produced lots of players who were talented and eligible to represent the nation.

He commended the GFA for bringing on board a football philosophy which would fix the fundamentals of football in Ghana.
