Is Benazir Bhutto’s biopic in the works?

Several Pakistani film actresses have expressed will to play the role of martyred Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and former Prime Minister (PM) Benazir Bhutto.

During a press conference of her upcoming movie, Baaaji, when Meera was asked about her dream role, Baaji’s actress replied, “I want to play the role of ‘Benazir Bhutto’ in an action movie as her next project as my dream role.”

She wants to give the message of women empowerment through the role of Benazir in the film. She wants to tell people that girls are not less than the boys, they have equal rights. They can do everything the boys can. It is the basic reason to play the role of Benazir in the next movie.

Meera’s upcoming movie ‘Baaji’ will be hitting the cinemas across the country on June 28.

Moreover, Mehwish Hayat has also hopped on the bandwagon and recently expressed her interests in portraying the role of Bhutto in a possible biopic. She dedicated the following Instagram post to late Bhutto on her 65th birthday:

The caption says: “I am privileged to have been given the opportunity to research and learn more about her life and sitting here I can only reflect on so much more that could have been had she not lost her life so tragically…. I look forward to giving life to her story soon”. This not only hints at a movie in the works but also increases suspense over the chosen actress.

However, upon coming across these rumors, Benazir’s daughter Bakhtawar Zardari voiced disappointment at the lack of consent from the Bhutto family, before starting such a project.

Mehwish Hayat the quickly resorted to address the issue and explained the situation to Bakhtawar and replied on twitter saying:
