The Book of Bunny Suicides

Rate this book
Rabbits. We'll never quite know why, but sometimes they decide they've just had enough of this world- and that's when they start getting inventive. The Book of Bunny Suicides follows over one hundred bunnies as they find ever more outlandish ways to do themselves in. From an encounter with the business end of Darth Vader's lightsaber, to supergluing themselves to a diving submarine, to hanging around underneath a loose stalactite, these bunnies are serious about suicide.

Illustrated in a stark and simple style, The Book of Bunny Suicides is a collection of hilarious and outrageous cartoons that will appeal to anyone in touch with their evil side.

i have to meet this man so that i can ask him when the
image of fluffy little bunnies doing themselves
in came to his mind. Oh yeah, and what was he
doing at the time. In church? Changing his
oil? Filling out a tax form?

Then the next thing I'd want to know is whether
it was difficult to come up with all these
mostrous ways to say goodbye. I mean-did the bunny
in the lobster tank with the scuba gear just come
to him?

And then finally I'd tell him about standing in a
bookstore in Rome with the Italian version of his
book and gagging with laughter. (Romans rarely laugh
in public) and having everybody stare at me. I'd tell
him about giving a copy to my 20-year old daughter who
speaks no italian and having her get it.

And then I'd take him out for a drink.

If you like the work of Edward Gorey you will enjoy this book. One of those books that make you feel guilty when you laugh. Every once in a while it is just the type of book that you need to read to connect with that slightly darker self - that you try so hard to hide.

Riley should be medicated. And I really liked this apparently simple book of cartoons, so I'm in no better shape. This is all Tim Burton's fault. He led me to this book and now, I can't stop. I love humor, and this is my favorite kind.

This book contains some hilarious, twisted, macabre, weird and tender stuff. I admit I felt a little guilty because I was laughing while some depressed little bunnies that were tired of living, decided to leave this world in a memorable and effective way. But I couldn't help it...

I never really cared for bunnies, actually. I've always had that "Bambi bunnies" image in my head, so, as a kid, when I had a couple as pets, it was such a disappointment. However, as stupid as it sounds, these cartoons made me like them again. I wanted to take care of them. I can't imagine what was going through that bunny's head in order to feel the need of dying with a million of bees on its tiny body. That's a really painful way to go. However, that's a simple one. There are other more complicated methods: hilarious, sad, controversial, but always creative. Noah's Ark, I mean, really, too funny.

I have to share one image, at least.

This book was hilarious! I laugh at every single page of it! There is mostly no words, just simple sketch of bunny killing themselves. It's stupid I know. But God it was funny!!

ahahahaha. lucuuu banget.
tapi kelinci tuh kenapa yah 'maksa' banget pengen bunuh diri.
padahal kan dia hewan yang lucu. di rumah-ku aja diternakin. kalo udah banyak baru dijualin ehehehe.

yah, mungkin dia bosan jadi hewan percobaan.

Meglio farla finita

One page jokes with multiple ways bunnies might have committed suicide by British author/artist Riley. Funny, and because they are so WRONG, they will be hilarious to many people, like Helen Keller jokes or Ethiopian hunger jokes, etc. Crossing the line is what comedy is about, most of the time, seems to me, as that film about the Greatest Joke in the World discussed and demonstrated… the one who went the farthest got the most laughs… very interesting. So suicide is NOT an okay topic to laugh about… and killing furry little cute bunnies--also not okay-- but two books of these have proven popular, and this is because they are making fun of stuff that is not okay to make fun of…Rabelais was a model for this, and Bakhtin said it was carnival that helped the lower classes laugh at the rich and powerful… satire has a political, cultural and social function… and personal, too, of course... for adolescents and perpetual adolescents everywhere. I thought it was funny, given all that, I get the joke, but it's a single joke, essentially, told countless ways, getting funnier for some m=people maybe with every unnecessary repetition… I would have loved this at 16, for sure. At 60? Not so much, but I smiled a few times. For me my interest in it became more about the nature of comedy than anything else. Is even saying this much about it taking it too seriously and revealing I am not Riley's primary audience? Probably.

I like dark humour and I think my sense of humour is OK. This little book grabbed my attention and I found the first drawings amusing but soon I was bored.

And what the point of this book? To raise awareness or just make fun of people who have suicidal tendencies/consider suicide?

I got this graphic novel in a Bookoutlet box on accident. I didn’t buy it, it was just randomly put in there for whatever reason. This book has been sitting in a pile on my floor for a good two years. The author also wrote Gnomeo and Juliet the animated cartoon.

I found this graphic novel to be a very quick read. The illustrations were quite good. There were only about three pages with words so the majority, you just looked at pictures of different graphic ways rabbits could kill themselves.

This isn’t re-readable in my opinion so I’ll be passing it along to a friend.

This is undoubtedly the most perverted book I’ve ever read. It’s also ingenious, and it’s very funny.

My favorite suicidal bunnies are the “Beam me up Scotty” and “Noah’s Ark” and also the “airplane toilet” and, and, and so many others.

I’m reminded a little of Gary Larson and I love The Far Side. Here though, it’s all bunnies, all suicidal, all the time.

I see that there are other books of additional suicidal bunnies. I’m not sure how many more variations this author/illustrator can come up with, but I suspect it’s enough to make the other books worth checking out.

You have to have a really warped sense of humor and be in the right mood to appreciate these cartoons. I wouldn’t recommend this book to everyone, but I enjoyed it.

"Beam me up Scotty" is so good!

I don't know what it says about me as a person, but I proudly display this book and The Gashlycrumb Tinies on my physical bookshelf at home. I think they are delightful and they make me smile. Why do I find suicidal little bunnies charming and endearing? I probably don't want to know, I just know that I do. Such creative and imaginative little critters they are were.

Suicide is never funny, unless those who are doing themselves in are cartoon fluffy bunnies. I felt a little guilty laughing at it, but couldn't help myself. The cartoons were just too funny not to. My favorite was the bunny who stood on only half a circle to be beamed up on star trek.
