Julianna Margulies claimed an Emmy win for The Good Wife on Monday night.
“What a wonderful time for women on television,” Margulies said, in accepting the outstanding lead actress award from presenter Viola Davis. The actress, who portrays attorney Alicia Florrick on the CBS drama, has claimed three Emmy wins; she has been nominated 10 times.
“Josh Charles, I miss you every day. What were you thinking?” she added to her former co-star on the CBS drama. She previously won the same award for The Good Wife in 2011 and nabbed the supporting actress in a drama Emmy for ER in 1995.
The actress beat out Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Claire Danes (Homeland), Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey) and Kerry Washington (Scandal) in the category.

“If it’s not on the page, it’s not on the stage. But when you have great material it’s a gift that keeps unwrapping. I feel very strongly that this is for the whole team. This is for everyone,” the actress said in backstage comments.
Margulies expanded upon her speech when she mentioned the difficulties of working on a 22-season show versus other cable dramas that often have shorter seasons. “They deserve to have some Emmy love,” she added backstage, praising the constant churning of content by the writers on a broadcast schedule.
She also admitted that the fifth season, which critics and fans have applauded as one of The Good Wife‘s strongest, has caused some nervousness over how to match that quality. “We’ve shot four episodes of season six, and so far, I’m letting go of the nerves. [The writers are] showing up and they’re doing a great job,” she said.
Margulies did hint at Alicia’s continued growth in the new season. “She’s getting a little tougher. She’s getting a drier sense of humor and [she’s] able to take herself less seriously,” said the actress.
