NEWS BRIEFS
Sunnyvale, CA — Fujitsu Limited announced that its PRIMEPOWER(TM) 2000 Solaris(TM) compatible, SPARC(R) based server has achieved a new world record in the industry-standard SPECjbb(TM) 2000 (SPEC Java(TM) Business Benchmark 2000) benchmark. On March 7, 2002, Fujitsu topped the competition with a result of 424,206 operations per second, as measured with the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation’s benchmark for gauging server-side Java performance. The PRIMEPOWER 2000 system used in the test ran on the industry-standard Solaris 8 operating system and was powered by 64 (675MHz) SPARC64-GP(TM) processors. Establishing the PRIMEPOWER line as the world’s most powerful Java server engine, the latest benchmark results demonstrate once again Fujitsu’s leadership in the high-end Internet-oriented business computing space.

About SPECjbb 2000
SPECjbb 2000 — the “jbb” stands for Java business benchmark — represents an order processing application for a wholesale supplier. Written in Java and released by SPEC in 2000, it was developed with participation from computer vendors, system integrators, universities, research organizations, publishers and consultants. SPECjbb2000 is loosely modeled after the TPC-C benchmark’s business model, emulating a three-tier client/server system with emphasis on the middle tier. However, contrary to typical TPC-C implementations, all of SPECjbb2000 is written in Java, and all three tiers are implemented within a single JVM. No commercial database is used; Java objects replace database objects for the purpose of this benchmark. Due to the different implementation, SPECjbb2000 results should not be confused with TPC-C results, where Fujitsu also holds the world record among non-clustered systems.
