The Peaks of the Balkans is a hiking trail that covers three countries, Kosovo, Montenegro and Albania. This trail attracs many tourists that are in love with hiking and want to see new places, meet new people and see different cultures. Not only that they seek the beautiful sceneries but also get to know the culture of the people that live in these majestic mountains. Undoubtedly, staying in nature is a wonderful thing, however if you would have to stay for 8 days, without a doubt, that's when the magic kicks in. We were for 8 days in the most beautiful parts of the accursed mountains together with people who later not only became friends with us but also we created a bond that we would never forget. Outdoor Kosova organized a training for future guides in the peaks of the balkans, our intructors were amazing and had professional attributes, they always kept teaching us new things. Our training instructurs were Fatos Katallozi and Mentor Bojku they both did an amazing job and en

A brief adventure to Gjeravica Mountain in the Accursed Mountains.

There's the Heart Lake of Gjeravica.

Every time when I want to go hiking or if someone invites me to a hiking trip I always get hyped. It happens to me always and I can't sleep from the excitement just thinking about it. So the thrilling adventure began, and our destination was a fascinating place called Gjeravica, which is located in Junik.
It was highest peak in Kosovo with an altitude of 2656M high after a group of experts discovered another peak in Dragash of Prizeren which is called Rudoka or Mans Peak (Maja e Njerit) with an altitude only 2 meters higher than Gjeravica however, this peak is still not official. In 2008 after the border between Kosovo and Macedonia was set this peak belonged to Kosovo now. 100countryhighpoints

We were a small group of 8 hikers and wanted to go to an adventure never seen before after a 3 hours of driving from Prishtina to Decan. In addition, we at last arrived at a place called by the locals "Zalli i Rupes" (Rupa Sand). So we got off the van and prepared our gears and stuff that we bought earlier at a super market. So we started the hike with our leader that was telling us about the mountains in that region. Thus they're called the accursed mountains and they're spread in three countries: Albania, Kosova and Montenegro. They are so beautiful and amazing that leaves you speechless and touches your heart that you assume to yourself that you will never return back to the city again.

Therefore, we started to hike up a hill covered with high pines and our leader was Arben Islami - a fantastic hiker, ski-free rider and a professional tennis trainer along with Rinor, Shpendi, Laureat, Gazi, Leutrim and Lisi. Going up the hill after 40 minutes, the trees started to fade away and we were surrounded by countless massive mountain peaks that reached the sky. The fun during the hike is not only that we are able to summit on the other hand but it is also during the time when we stop and enjoy the views surrounding us and being able to walk in those beautiful valleys and meadows that make the hike mind-blowing. After 1 hour or so we arrived at Plaqica e Vokshit a small mountain village made of wood cabins. We stood there and made a pause and had something to eat and drink. From there we started our way to the summit which we enjoyed and didn't notice that we were tired at all since it was the beauty of the mountain that kept us moving forward.

This place was a wonderland. I had never seen so many lakes before in a mountain - even some of them had the form of a Heart that could feasts one's eyes with turquoise color. We managed to get ourselves at the ridge which from there we could see the summit. The weather was perfect, sunny and clear skies. After 40 minutes we were at the summit of Gjeravica and what a fantastic feeling was that. We enjoyed the view, saw endless mountains from the top - the wind was howling and felt a bit chilly. However, we took some great pictures, also we were very hungry so we ate with the best view ever. As the saying says "The best view comes after the hardest climb" thus we did it. Thereafter, we took our backpacks and started our descent and hiked back the same way as before, and celebrated our successful hike with some "qebapa" in Peja city and returned back to Prishtina with a huge smile.

Ways and possibilities that you can summit this peak: You can go with 4x4 Jeep from Decan to "Gropa e Erenikut" and from there to hike up the mountain it will take you probably about 8-9 hours .
During winter you can go skiing if you are an expert skier and have the guts to slide down from the top.
