Pokémon Go: How to Get Mega Energy

In Pokémon Go, you can Mega Evolve your Pokémon for a massive boost in battle. This type of temporary evolution upgrades Pokémon's Combat Power and can even change their types. Mega Evolved Pokémon are formidable opponents, but achieving Mega Evolution is not possible without a little work.

If you want to Mega Evolve your favorite Pokémon, you'll have to collect a resource called Mega Energy. Mega Evolution for the first time means stockpiling Mega Energy, but then all subsequent times, you can evolve without having to use Mega Energy. You just have to wait out a resting period that can last a few days.

But you're likely trying to figure out where to get Mega Energy from in the first place by now. It's not that hard to gather if you need it, but if you need a bit of help grabbing it, we're here to help you do so. Here's everything we know about gathering Mega Energy in Pokémon Go.

How to Get Mega Energy in Pokémon Go

Pokemon Go: Mega Energy
In Pokémon Go, you need Mega Energy if you want to Mega Evolve your Pokémon. There are a variety of ways to obtain Mega Energy, and you'll need to know how to get some if... Niantic

Earning Mega Energy is quite simple. It won't take you long to amass, but you'll want to use what you are able to gather sparingly. You'll want to seek out Mega-Evolved Pokémon whenever possible, whether that means joining a Mega Raid Battle, or completing a variety of specific research tasks.

You can also earn Mega Energy by walking around with your Buddy Pokémon if you've already Mega-Evolved a Pokémon that's in the same evolutionary line as your Buddy Pokémon. For instance, if you walk with a Bulbasaur but have already Mega-Evolved a Bulbasaur in the past, you can use this method in the same way.

However, as developer Niantic notes, you can only use Mega Energy for one specific Pokémon species. You can only use the Mega Energy for Charizard, for example, to Mega Evolve Charizard. Essentially, this means you'll just have to try different methods when you're first starting out with this method, as it's not a one-size-fits-all method.

With all of the different ways you can potentially power up your Pokémon in the game, Mega Evolution is one of the simplest and most intriguing ways. It doesn't require too much specific training, and the rewards are tremendous. You'll see exactly why the payoff is worth the work the first time you absolutely trounce your opponent.

Pokémon Go is available to play on iOS and Android for free right now.
