A 1966 Volvo P1800 logged its 3 millionth mile this week. U.S. owner Irv Gordon already holds the Guinness World Record for logging the most miles driven by a single owner in a non-commercial vehicle – a record he has held since 1998, when he hit the 1,690,000-mile mark. He logged his 3 millionth mile on Alaska’s Seward Highway on Tuesday, according to a Volvo press statement.

World’s largest motorcycle breaks Guinness record: A motorcycle that weighs 10,000 pounds and is 161/2-feet tall and 33-feet long entered the Guinness World Records book earlier this month. Italian Fabio Reggiani created the bike with eight people over seven months. Powered with a 5.7-liter V8, the bike is even rideable.

Americans reach 1,000th day of gas over $3 per gallon: Tuesday marked the 1,000th consecutive day of $3-plus-per-gallon gas nationally, according to the Automobile Assn. of America. California drivers have been paying at least $3 a gallon for 1,082 consecutive days, as of Tuesday. Southern California drivers, who pay the highest price per gallon in the continental U.S., are nearing 1,000 days of $3.50-plus per gallon.

Chevrolet Silverado ranks first with Consumer Reports: The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado took the top ranking in the competitive pickup truck category in Consumer Reports test results released Tuesday. The Silverado has a larger cargo bed, several hundred pounds more payload, a lower step-in height and best-in-class fuel economy of 16 mpg combined compared with the magazine’s No. 2 pickup, the 2014 Ram 500, and Ford’s bestselling F-150.

One in four parents fails to buckle up kids: Twenty-five percent of parents and caregivers have driven without ensuring their children have been properly secured in a vehicle’s car or booster seat, according to a new Safe Kids Worldwide Survey sponsored with a $2 million grant from the General Motors Foundation. The survey of 1,002 parents and caregivers of children age 10 and younger was released Tuesday.

1901 Ariel Quadricycle to be auctioned: A 1901 Ariel Motorcycles Quadricycle that has had just three owners will be auctioned from the same spot at which it was originally purchased 112 years ago – on London’s Bond Street, now home to the auction house Bonhams. Originally manufactured as a tricycle with an optional fourth wheel, the 345cc Quadricycle is powered with a De Dion engine and is expected to sell for $40,000 to $56,000 at the London to Brighton auction Nov. 1.

GenZe two-wheeler to debut at AltCar Expo: The American-made GenZe commuter vehicle will be making its debut at the AltCar Expo in Santa Monica today and Saturday. The electric two-wheeler is designed to tackle traffic congestion and can be customized with cell phone and laptop chargers; it also connects to the Internet.

Today is Park(ing) Day: The third Friday of September is Park(ing) Day – an annual impromptu event that takes place in metered public parking spaces globally. Instead of a car, participants in the unsanctioned guerrilla art movement are encouraged to transform stretches of metered asphalt into temporary public parks and art installations.
