Haley Akemi Briggles, PhD Candidate

Haley Briggles

Haley Akemi Briggles is a PhD candidate in Critical Music Studies, supported by an American Association of University Women (AAUW) Dissertation Fellowship and a Turner Dissertation Fellowship. Her research focuses on how East Asian American musicians of the past fifty years have used music to engage with the marginalization of Asian Americans in U.S. popular culture. As a pianist, Haley enjoys performing and sharing music through her teaching. In addition, she has represented the Music Department as a Graduate Student Organization senator from 2021-2023. Her goal is a career in higher education administration, and she has mentored AAPI students and worked on grant writing projects that aim to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion in the Humanities at Stony Brook.
