According to auction house Bonhams, it is "certified to have been driven by Tom Selleck on the set" of the television programme during season four.

After appearing on Magnum P.I., the car was repossessed by Ferrari North America, who then serviced and painted it, before selling it to its first owner.

It was sold again in 1989 and is said to be in pristine condition.

Selleck, 71, famously played the Hawaii-based moustachioed detective on the show from 1980 to 1988.

Season four first aired in the US between 1983 and 1984.

Bonhams says in the listing: "This Ferrari captured the hearts of millions throughout the 1980s in living rooms across America as Tom Selleck piloted this exact car around the streets of Hawaii in the pursuit of justice,".

It sold on Thursday at Bonhams' Scottsdale, Arizona auction.
