This photo of James and me was taken immediately after the ceremony in a small park downtown. People were so incredibly warm. We got lots of congratulations, applause, and a few hugs from people just passing by wishing us the best and lots of blessings. We were so touched! I wore a beautiful dress from Miguelina, a wonderful Dominican designer. It felt summery and young, without being overly bridal. My favorite flowers are peonies, and I wrapped my wedding bouquet in our family lace. This piece of lace has been in every Wiedemann wedding for four generations. It was wonderful to have it be part of my day, and I was surprised by how it made me feel so connected to all of the women in my family. My ring is from Tiffany & Co., as is James's. We both wanted simple and elegant rings—we saw these while shooting the fall Tiffany & Co. ad campaign and just fell in love. Here, James is giving his speech at the reception. It was totally hilarious! James is a real gentleman so he started off his speech by thanking my parents for giving him my hand in marriage, at which my mother Isabella Rossellini yelled out, "I want a camel!" as a dowry joke. Everyone in the room erupted in laughter, and I think it broke the ice and made James feel a little less nervous for the rest of his speech. All I could think to myself is that I'm worth at least 50 camels! As a surprise, James framed a tiny piece of paper that I had written my phone number on and given to him many years ago. The story of how we met is much like the plotlines in the films, Serendipity or Sliding Doors, so it was a really meaningful gift. I had tears in my eyes when he gave it to me, and I now have it hanging in our living room to always remind me of how fate brought us together. Here I am listening to my father give his speech. Giambattista Valli made my reception dress (which I consider the wedding dress, since my ceremony was so tiny!) He introduced James and I many years ago, so it is thanks to him that we met." A hug with my father after his speech. He's my hero! Rather than have a traditional wedding photographer, we had a photo booth set up in the back on a mini stage with American flag and Union Jack (James is British) as props. Everyone at the party could go to the photo booth and take fun pictures that were printed in real time and then placed in a book where they could then write a message to us. The pictures and the notes are absolutely hysterical. We had two cakes—a mini pecan pie and a Swedish princess cake (pictured here). I did not want anything about our wedding to feel traditional, hence the two cakes and the decorative element on top. James and I cutting the cake. It was delicious! Our first dance to one of our favorites—"I've Heard That Song Before." Our wedding portrait.
