Bogdan Nawrocki murder: Man guilty of killing Nottingham housemate

A man has been jailed for 27 years for the murder of a fellow Polish immigrant whose body has never been found.

Robert Marcinkiewicz-Szurkowski, 27, of Sneinton, Nottingham, denied killing Bogdan Nawrocki, 21, a year ago.

Mr Nawrocki, of Bobbers Mill Road, was last seen on 5 January in the Radford area of the city.

Nottingham Crown Court heard traces of his blood were found during a search of a property in Osborne Street that he shared with his killer.

The jury was told the killing happened after a row between the flatmates over house rules and an alleged theft by Mr Nawrocki.

Mr Nawrocki had been the victim of "a prolonged and violent attack" by a group of men and his body taken away from the property.

Police searched more than 40 sites, including an abandoned factory in Radford, but his body was never located.

His flatmate Marcinkiewicz-Szurkowski was living rough in a tent near the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham when he was arrested.

Mr Nawrocki was trafficked from Poland to the UK by gang and worked as a "wage slave" before he fled to Nottingham to join his sister Monika Ivanska, police said.

In April, she made an emotional appeal in Polish for him to get in touch and police had offered a £5,000 reward for information about his disappearance or the recovery of his body.

She said in a victim impact statement: "I have been left horrified by learning how he met his death.

"I wish I could find out where Bogdan is located so he could be given the burial he deserves and allow my family to pay our respects."
