Apple is extending the repair program for its iPad Pro Smart Keyboards to three years.

The detachable Bluetooth keyboards for both the 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models have been reported to have "functional issues," according to an internal Apple memo obtained by 9to5Mac.

Some of the hardware malfunctions reportedly include connection problems with the magnetic connector, as well as trouble with keys sticking, repeating and being unresponsive. The 12.9-inch model costs $169, £169 or AU$245.

Apple confirmed to CNET that qualifying Smart Keyboards within three years of the original purchase date will be covered by the service policy for free. The new policy extends the original 12 months of coverage an additional two years, in case the hardware issues appear over time.
