Nintendo first implemented vibration with the Rumble Pak in 1997, which sought to offer a more tactile, immersive experience with games like Star Fox 64. Since then, they've opened the doors to a slew of more pronounced and refined efforts. Not only has Nintendo upped the ante with its nuanced HD rumble Joy-Cons for Switch, but Sony and Microsoft have also stepped up their rumble game. The Xbox One, in particular, sports an impressive and unique form of vibration allocated to the trigger buttons.

This more detailed version of rumble grants an added degree of depth and realism, as each trigger is laced with independent rumble motors. These "Impulse Triggers" can really make you feel like you're driving on rough terrain, or firing your Spartan rifle. While the majority of games on Xbox One's vast library utilize this satisfying feature to one degree or another, there are clearly some more solid examples. With this list, we'll cover 10 of the best.

10 NBA 2K20

In many ways, Visual Concepts NBA 2K series has been the gold standard for realistic basketball sims since the 90s. And the flashy, refined NBA 2K20 on Xbox One largely rises to the occasion, with its dynamic gameplay and sleek visuals. In a game that stresses both realism and detailed mechanics, a nuanced feedback system is critical, and this game delivers.

Not only does dribbling, passing, and shooting feel realistic, but you'll also be cued in as to which teammate you should pass to depending on which trigger button vibrates. The tactile feel combined with this in-game communication heightens the depth of this already rich basketball experience.

9 Halo: Spartan Assault

The FPS sensation Halo has seen its share of spinoffs, with mixed results. One of the most positive examples is this delightfully fun twin-stick shooter from 343 Industries and Vanguard Games.

Halo: Spartan Assault ropes you into the bombardment of action; not just because of its fun gameplay, but also its emphatic trigger vibration while shooting. In addition to this more realistic feeling of shooting and recoil, you also get some super intense feedback when your turrets are close to overheating.

8 Alien: Isolation

Given that this thriller is so realistic and cinematic, a detailed rumble feature can go a long way. Thankfully, Creative Assembly rises to the challenge with this 2014 survival horror. Picking up on these touch-based cues is key here, given how frighteningly smart the enemy AI is.

The levels of detail in the trigger rumble meshes greatly with the thick atmosphere and rich presentation. The intimidating alien terrorizing you can literally be felt while it creeps about, thanks to the rumble. The tactility of various items and flame weapons is also greatly captured by the detailed vibration of the triggers.

7 Assassin's Creed: Odyssey

Ubisoft tends to thrive when injecting nuanced rumble into their games, and the Assassin's Creed series is no different. This latest rendition for Xbox One is a particularly epic example. The sense of immersion in this open-world action romp is off the charts here, thanks to its cinematic presentation and nuanced use of the Impulse Triggers.

From the gritty close-range fights to silent take-downs and naval combat, the trigger vibration is well implemented and realistic.

6 Forza Horizon 4

The Forza series as a whole has been commended for its exhilarating, realistic feel. This is partly enhanced from the depth of the trigger rumble working in tandem with the gameplay. While the open-world Horizon offshoot has used this more subtly, it's nonetheless effective, without being overwhelming and draining those controller batteries too fast.

As you'll be doing a ton of driving - often on rough terrain - detailed feedback is crucial, and Playground Games nails it. Not only do you get different sensations depending on the terrain, you also more-or-less get a different feel each season. Whether its the slipperiness of winter or the sloshy texture of a wet, rainy spring, the rumble really adds to the atmosphere.

5 Sunset Overdrive

Insomniac Games' zany action romp, Sunset Overdrive, quickly showcased what the new controller could do early in the Xbox One's life. The variance in the vibration works quite well here, given the insane amount of variety in actions and weapons at your disposal.

Each of the wacky weapons contains at least a slightly different feel when firing; from the lightning-spewing Shocker to the explosive Teddy Bear launcher. The frequent bouncing and rail-grinding are made to feel more tactile thanks to the Impulse Triggers.

4 Watch Dogs

Ubisoft's tech-themed action romp, Watch Dogs, hasn't quite lived up to the massive hype it initially received for many gamers. Still, one trait that does stand out for most is its use of the Impulse Triggers during your hacking, stealth, and shooting escapades.

This dynamic sci-fi epic is made even richer with the realistic feel of firing weapons and tinkering with gadgets. Driving around the streets of Chicago also feels great with the ongoing low rumble of the triggers.

3 Grand Theft Auto V

Similar to our previous entry, this latest rendition of the hit GTA series is complemented by an array of sensations, which mesh well with the diversity of the gameplay. Everything from explosions to weapon firing to driving is emboldened and made even more cinematic with the Impulse Triggers.

Driving around Los Santos feels particularly great, as accelerating, braking, and driving at different speeds will produce different levels of feedback. This is crucial, as you'll likely spend much time joyriding around and wreaking havoc.

2 Dead Rising 3

One of the biggest appeals of Capcom's zombie-slaying romp is the slew of weapons at your disposal. It's an endlessly joyful endeavor walloping and mowing down hordes of undead with everything from guitars to rigged leaf blowers. This is made all the more thrilling with the level of detail in the trigger rumble, which gives a unique feel to most weapons.

Given that this early Xbox One game relies more on scope and immersion than aesthetics, much relies on the vibration, and it delivers.

1 Halo 5: Guardians

It would stand to reason that the most iconic, prized franchise on the Xbox line utilizes the Impulse Triggers most effectively.

Though 2015's Guardians isn't typically considered "peak Halo" for most fans, one can't deny its flashy, cinematic qualities, which are in prime form. This is partly because of the console's horsepower, which allows for a crisper, smoother shooter that's larger in scope. Yet, it's also because of the refined, in-depth feel of the vibration. Firing off your assault rifle or blasting foes in vehicles feels better and more epic than ever.
