Abstract

The remote instrument reading and telemetry sys-tem includes at least one instrument link (2) intercon-nected to a data gathering device (4) and a remote station interrogation apparatus (6). The interrogation apparatus (6) and instrument link (2) both include ra-dio transmitters (30) and receivers (44). The interro-gation apparatus (6) instructs the instrument link (2) to transmit information, within certain time frames, and in a specific frequency channel. Before requesting the transmission of information, the interrogation appara-tus (6) determines the best available reply channel for transmission of information. The instrument link (2) transmits information using spread spectrum modula-tion techniques.
