UNITED sTATEs PATENT OFFICE WILLIAM G. PRITCHAB'D, OF COLUMBIA, PENSVYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR T TODDY, INC., OF NEW YORK, 1\T. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW 'YORK DRINK MIXER Application filea August 21,
This invention relates to mixers and more particularly to devices for mixing drinks, I An object of the invention is to provide` a device of an improved and i simplified 5 structure which can be used in ,connection with tumblers or similarcontainers.
A further object is to provide a device of the character indicated of an' improved structure by means of whicha thorough agitation of a liquid may be secured in a very short time. o
Further obj ects will appear in connection with the following detailed description.
The invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combinations of parts hereinafter more particularly de'- scribed and claimed.`
One sheet of drawings accompanies'this specification as part thereof in which like reference characters indicate like parts throughout.
Fig. 1 is a Vertical cross section through the improved mixing device in position in a tumbler.
Fig. 2 is a transverse cross section showing the mixing disc in top plan.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary side elevation.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 2 showin a modified arrangement of bafl'les,
Referring to the drawings:
N umeral 1 indicates a tumbler which may be provided with a removable top 2 having a central bearing orifice 3 adaptedv to slidably receive rod 4 of the mixing device.
On one end of rod 4 is positioned a'handle 5 and on the other end of the rod is fiXedly secured a disc 6, which may be of dished An improved feature of the invention con- 1930. Serial No. 476,851.
In Figs. 1 to 3 the orifices 9 are shown w as elongated rectangular holes arranged radia-lly with respect to the disc and the rod- 4 and the baifles 7 extending substantially half the length of each orifice adj acent the v center are struck upwardly in one direction while baflies 8, similar inA all respects to baffies 7 are struck up in the opposite direcition from-the outer halves of orifices 9 by means of which arrangement liquid forced through orifices 9 is directed by baffles 7 in jets `directed clock-Wise while the liquid forced upward against bafllesS Ais forced in jets directed counter clockwise.
In the form shown in Fig. 4 the adjacent baflies 7 in pairs are directed towardfeach other so that jets of liquid are deflected by these baflles to converge and intermingle.
Various modifications and forms of arrangement of the bafiles will readily suggest themselves to those skilledqin the art and particularly adapted for the mixing of different materials.
Having thus fully described my invention I claim;
o The combination, with a receptacle, of a cover seated on the mouth of the receptacle, said cover having an aperture through the center' thereof, a rod extending slidably xthrough said aperture into the receptacle,
and anagitator onthe end of the rod within w the receptacle, saidagitator consisting of a substantially conical disk connected at its VerteX to said rod and a cylindrical skirt dependingj from the base thereof, said disk being provided on its inclined face with concentric circular rows of radial slots, the slots lof one row being staggered relative to the slots of the next row, each slot having a deqflecting plate extending along one of its edges land above the convex surface of the disk, the plates ofone row of slots being inclined relative to said surface oppositely to theplates of the next row.
` In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
wiLLIAM o. PRITCHARD.
