ADJUSTABLE TABLE.

Specification of Letters Patent No. 30,671, dated November 20, 1860.

To aZZ whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, OBEN O. DODGE, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented, made, and applied to use a certain new and useful Improvement in Adjustable Tables; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construe tion and operation of the saine, reference be ing had to the annexed drawing, making part of this specification, wherein- Figure l, is a perspective view and Fig. 2, is a vertical section.

My adjustable table is adapted to drafts- Inen, designers, engravers or writers and is fitted so as to be elevated to any desired height, and either inclined or horizontal, and by the combination of mechanism I employ great convenience is afforded for adapting the table to the workman when in either a sitting or standing posture.

In the drawing a, is the base or foot of niy table.

Z), Z9, are vertical standards connected by the bar c. These standards h, are formed with T shaped grooves in which are the racks .Z, d, united at their upper ends with the battens c, c, on the under side of the table f, bypmeans of the pins l, l. These racks CZ, cZ, are formed with notches or teeth taking the spring pawls g, g, that are attached to the inner faces of the standards o, b, and project through openings so as to take the teeth `of CZ, CZ.

L, is a cord or chain from each pawl g over the rollers or guides 2, 2, hanging in a bight so that the party by placing his foot on this part of the cord can draw the pawls away from the racks and lower the table to the desired point; when on releasing the pressure by the foot the spring pawls g g again take the racks cZ, d.

c', is a sector attached at its ends to the batten c, and passing through the clamp 7c; when this clamp screw 7c is released the table top can be turned on the pins l, l, into any desired angular or inclined position and then clamped iirmly.

Z, is a bracket swinging on eyes 3, 3, in the rack cZ, taking the table m, that may be used for ink, or for the brushes of artists, engravers tools, &c., and maintains a horizontal position regardless of the inclination of the main. table f. The vertical grooves in the outer faces of the standards b, Z9, pass the clamp 7c, and the eyes 3, 3, as represented.

Having thus described my said invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The racks CZ, cZ, in the standards b b, combined with the pawls g g, and rope or oord Zz, in the ina-nner and for the purposes specified.

2. In combination with said racks CZ, CZ, and pawls g g the sector and clamp 7J, for :pegullating the inclination of the table as set ort i.

3. The table m, on the bracket Z, connected by the eyes 3, 3, tothe rack cZ, in the manner and for the purposes specified.
