Abstract

Summary There is many factors affecting CI outcome , one of them is the presence of a healthy and sufficiently large population of SGN that is able to transduce the encoded auditory information via the afferent auditory system to the auditory cortex , the function and number of SGN correlates, at least in rodents, with the slopes of the electrically evoked compound action potential (ECAP) of the auditory nerve , also ECAP measurements in human CI users were also indicating such correlation ( He et al.,2017). The current study was designed to study ECAP thresholds and AGF, study speech recognition in quiet and noise in children CI users, and finding the relation between ECAP measures and behavioral measures. This study included 21 children, aged (6-17 years) with unilateral Medel CI with full inserted electrode who underwent regular speech therapy and had satisfactory aided response. All subjects were assessed by phonological assessment ( language test , IQ , intelligibility and speech assessment ) , Basic audiological assessment ( history, aided PTA and speech recognition tests ), maestro software assessment ( impedance , AutoART and AGF at E1, E6 , E12 electrodes). As regard word recognition score (WRS) results revealed excellent, very good scores this means that CI children who had regular speech therapy can perform well in quiet situations, whereas BKB-SIN
