Renata Lucas

In the photos above you can see several examples of Renata Lucas art projects. As we wrote in an earlier post, Lucas usually intervenes in pre-existing environments and subtly changes them. In the December issue of Sleep Magazine, Lucas was interviewed by Hili Perlson about her art and her thoughts about the coming realization of her “dispersed museum” in Rio de Janeiro- the project for which she was awarded the Absolut Art Award.

Lucas says in the interview:

There’s a dramatic transformation happening there [Rio de Janeiro harbour area], of developments associated with international corporations, hotels, Trump Towers and all these bland things you see all over the world and that are about to very radically change the character of the harbour area. So I had this reality in front of me and I started to imagine what a disembodied museum would be, and how it could materialise. It’s not meant to be constructed anywhere, but taking advantage of existing architectural elements instead…When I imagined it at first I really thought the imaginary museum should be shown in one of the European partner institutions (of the Absolut Art Award). I was surprised when the jury welcomed the idea of doing it in Rio’s harbour. We’ll see. I’m excited. I almost didn’t sleep imagining how to move forward with this.
