Tony Smith (Republican Party) was a member of the Mississippi State Senate, representing District 47. Smith assumed office in 2012. Smith left office in 2016.

Smith (Republican Party) ran for election to the Mississippi Transportation Commission to represent Southern District. Smith lost in the Republican primary on August 6, 2019.

Smith is a former Republican member of the Mississippi State Senate, representing District 47 from 2012 to 2016. He ran for the Southern District seat on the Mississippi Public Service Commission in the 2015 elections.

Smith has served as chairman of the Picayune School District's Board of Trustees.

Biography

Smith earned his B.S. from the University of Southern Mississippi. His professional experience includes owning Stonewall's BBQ & Catering.[1]

Eleven state executive offices in Mississippi were up for election in 2015. The general election was held on November 3, 2015, following a primary election on August 4, 2015. Runoffs were scheduled for August 25 in case no candidate received a majority (50 percent plus one) of the popular vote in a given primary race.

Collier was defeated in the Republican primary, while Britton and Smith proceeded to a runoff election on August 25, 2015.[2] Britton was triumphant over Smith in the runoff election, defeating him by more than 10 points. Britton faced Tom Blanton (D) and Lonny Kenneth Spence (I) in the general election on November 3, 2015.[3]

Smith won the 2011 election for Mississippi Senate District 47. He defeated incumbent Ezell Lee and challenger John McCay, Jr. in the primary on August 2, 2011. Mitch Ellerby ran unopposed in the Democratic primary but withdrew prior to the November 8, 2011 general election.[8][9]
