Lecture HOW WE LIVE TOGETHER | MAPPING COMPLEXITIES by Larissa Fassler

Many thanks to the artist Larissa Fassler for her lecture How we live together | Mapping Complexities and discussing the works of our participants within the Studio Program at BAI | Berlin Artist Residency, Art School & Arts Incubator.

This is a critical time for society, as we engage in fundamental discussions about the future of our cities.  Questions abound, concerning issues of mobility, accessibility, equality, poverty, gentrification, homelessness, security, and control. Through my work I aim to meaningfully contribute to these discussions by addressing the role public space plays in shaping the ways we live together.

In my lecture I will speak about my use of drawing, painting and sculpture to explore the complex relationships between people and space. Borrowing methods from urban anthropology, urban planning, urban sociology and architectural drawing I have developed complex visual systems that map things such as the use of space, commercial activities, political actions, patterns of development, the flow of social, economic and cultural capital, situated within a site’s historic context.” (Text by courtesy of Larissa Fassler)
